Leafs sign Ond?ej Ka?e [1-year, $1.25mil AAV]

Always been seen as an analytics darling and underrated forward when healthy, just hasn't been healthy very often. Worth a bet at $1.25mil but if we only had room for one more forward I might have still preferred Tatar. Guess we'll have to see if he ends up getting a lot more than I figured he would like a bunch of other forwards.

Might be stuck with players who are more lottery tickety than others

I think I actually wouldn't mind seeing Kase on the 3rd line. He's a good 2-way player and can potentially give Mikheyev and Kampf a scoring punch when the puck goes the other way. If we waive Engvall this line-up would still have $2.8mil in space for another winger (Tatar? Ritchie?).

The MLHS analysis, which I find tends toward being as absolutely charitable as possible, leads me to think they overpaid.  According to them, this guy has had 5 documented concussions at the age of 25 + other injuries.  Not very reassuring.

But also not surprising.  Dubas seems to overpay a bit on the low-end guys.  In this case, by +$400k, according to the article.  That stuff adds up.

If he can avoid injury I think this could be a steal for the Leafs this year.  But for all of our financial advantages concussions aren't really something we can just make not happen. I hope this works out.

I do hope we find a way to add someone a little more reliable on a cheap deal (whether its a discount for Tatar or Ritchie or otherwise)

EDIT: I guess it's Ritchie...2 years x 2.5M

Can't we shove him on LTIR if it's an issue?
