Leafs sign Tyler Ennis

This is a pretty good article on Ennis' career, particularily the effect injuries have had on him the past few seasons:

Ennis used to play centre as well when he was a Sabre, so this could be a back-up plan for the 4C spot too if Lindholm has a rough camp.

Maybe although he probably got moved out of that spot in part because he's not much for face-offs.

Yeah I was just checking those stats, "not much" is putting it pretty kindly.

Name your two PP units.

Well, I think it's fair to say that 5 of the 8 spots are no brainers. Then you'd ideally like to see Marleau, Kapanen and Johnsson all get some time as well.

But it shouldn't be set in stone and over the course of a long season you'd like to have options.

I don't disagree with you there.  My PP units only had 1 question mark, and before Ennis signed it was Kapanen/Leivo as the placeholder.  Kapanen will be used quite a bit on the PK and typically Babcock likes to keep guys on one special team and not both.  Tavares and Johnsson seem to be the guys who will be the exception to that rule next season.

He is not really a stats type of signing either with roughly average relative Fenwick in the last couple years.  About 49% in his career.  Dubas can now say that he relies on the eye test instead of those newfangled stats.

Low risk, high reward.  Just the kind of signings that should be done on the margins of the forwards.
