Seriously, this will be a chance for Stamkos to see a fair portion of what the Leafs of the future will look like.  That said, he will also know that the team is still several years away from even aspiring to be where the Lightning are now.

This will be his 9th game. His next one after tonight will be the one to burn a year of his ELC. I didn't expect this to just be a 9-game stint but that confirms it.

I thought this would've been pretty obvious seeing as how he wasn't an emergency call up, and he was called up at the deadline.

This might be neither here nor there, but I just read Chris Johnson's latest article where he says that this season might potentially be Stamkos' best shot at a Stanley Cup in his career. The reason being that even if Stamkos re-signs with Tampa, they really only have another year where they can comfortably keep their core together. They'll have a very difficult, maybe impossible, task of re-signing Kucherov, Johnson, Palat, Hedman, and Bishop in the next 2 offseasons. If Stamkos stays then you have to figure at least 2, maybe 3 of those guys are goners. And Tampa hasn't shown yet that they can replace those types of players seamlessly year after year like say the Blackhawks. So come the 2017-18 season there's a decent chance that they aren't the powerhouse that we see them as today.

Anyway this line of thinking might actually encourage the no-Stamkos crowd as it brings up whether or not 1 player is worth that much cap space, but I feel like is sorta dispels the notion that if Stamkos wants to win he's crazy to leave Tampa for anywhere else, especially a rebuilding team. Again they might prove to be the best option for Year 1 of his deal but I'm sure he'll look more long-term than that.

Pretty even, low event game so far. Gardiner sprung Holland for a minor breakaway to take advantage of a line change, but Holland got slashed with no call.

Carrick breaks the tie!

Knocks down the high fluttering rebound in the high slot, and off the first bounce, Carrick slaps home a flutterpuck.

Had a feeling the Leafs would score a bit of an ugly one after all the nicer chances.

Congrats to Carrick on his first of hopefully many.

I was actually about to say that Carrick reminds me a bit of Sami Vatanen in the way he plays. Then he went and drove the net to keep the puck in play, and sifted back into position to capitalize on the following rebound.

Holland flips the goal puck to the Leafs equipment kid, who gives off a pretty good serial killer vibe.

Can't wait for the next few years with this team, finally something to be really excited about. Only took 40 years..seriously.
