Maple Leafs Sign Defenceman Andrew Macwilliam - TSN

I gather he has a reputation for being a hard hitter (at 230 lb on a 6'2" frame, it's no surprise).  Definitely seems to be what Carlyle is going for.

If the Leafs draft enough of these big strong hitters, some of them will be NHLers, others wont, but I like the approach. Hopefully this guy plays for the Leafs someday and is good. This team is getting harder and harder to play against, and that bodes real well for a team looking to become a perennial playoff team.

I've only heard good things about this guy. A lot of comparisons to Matt Greene in LA. He likely won't ever turn out that good but even if he just makes it to the bottom pairing one day I'll be happy. Fraser's been a pleasant surprise there but it's been awhile since we had somebody really nasty to play those minutes. Or any minutes really.

Penalties for being too big and strong? He looks like a beast anyway, certainly physically developed for the pro game.

Meh, that's the NCAA for you.

I think it is easier to gauge the readiness of a prospect in the NCAA over junior sometime though in particular the ability to stand the rig morals of physicality .  Older bigger guys, game is more physical for sure, tighter defence.

Looks like he's a bit of a headhunter to me, especially on that 2nd one.

Left his skates on the first one.  That second one looked fine to me.

I just want to see one game where he and Phanuef are banging the forwards coming through center ice.

Yeah I dislike that Phanuef doesn't throw big bodychecks anymore.  I think its because he is playing as the top dman and doesn't want to be caught out of position.

Phaneuf has been playing pretty good lately, not being caught out of position, not standing behind the net watching the puck go into the net, and not taking dumb penalties.  I like this version of Phaneuf much better.
