Mary Tyler Moore 1936-2017

Goodbye Laura Petrie & Mary Richards.

The above characters played by Moore -- as Laura Petrie in the '60's sitcom "The Dick Van Dyke Show",  and,  as Mary Richards in "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" of the '70's -- were iconic roles that showcased a woman being decisive, strong, funny, and sexy all at the same time.

Dick Van Dyke was the star of his show, but it may as well have been Moore that made the show, particularly in an era where a woman was still seen being second fiddle to a man.

It wasn't until her role as the fiercely independent and unmarried Mary Richards, that Moore portrayed a modern, professional woman.  Richards was the non-quintessential tv news producer, single and successful.  "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" was In some ways 'groundbreaking' even for a '70's sitcom.

Rest In Peace, Mary.  And thanks for giving us fans plenty of laughter.

I am staying out in North Scottsdale in a town called Carefree.  Dick Van Dyke so loved the area and had so much power at the time, that he had a studio built just near the Boulders so in fact the Dick Van Dyke Show was all filmed in Arizona. The cast and crew would travel from LA on a Monday morning and return home on Friday night.  MTM loved the area as well and had a house on Black Mountain which deliniates Carefree from Cave Creek.
I grew up with MTM and God grant her rest.
