Matt Frattin

I'm keeping a close eye on Frattin this year. I know most people around here think we won the Bernier trade, but I still have a few doubts. In L.A.'s warm up game last night Matt added three points to the scoresheet, and I still think he'll have a breakout season this year. I just hope Bernier does too, as I was very skeptical about trading Frattin. Anyone care to ease my mind?

I hope the trade works out for both of us, I think Frattin can be a serviceable NHLer, hoping the same for Bernier. I have a sinking feeling Bernier will steal the #1 job outright from Reimer and Reimer will be traded around the deadline or next summer :/

I loved Frattin and hope he does well. Followed him through the lawnmover days to what will probably be a long and prosperous NHL career. However if Bernier does prove to be the next Potvin (not Pot-roast) then we will forget Frattin or at least admire from afar. Glad he is not in our division.

Frattin is in a great opportunity as there's a pretty big opening on the Richards-Carter line. It's probably down to him or Tyler Tiffoli, who looked pretty good there when he played with them during the playoffs. The problem is LA isn't exactly a high scoring team, and Frattin will be behind Brown, Williams, and Carter on the wing depth chart. So even if he sticks on that 2nd line all season long (doubtful), I think he'll be in tough to crack 40 points.

i liked frattin a lot ..i thought he offered up a skill set that we're in short supply of...that being guys that are willing to drive the net..i hope he does well ..but neither side has to lose the trade ...and as much as I'll miss his head long charges to the goalmouth ..i was a little heartened watching Bernier field the puck as well as he does.  It feels like it's been a long time since the leafs have had a goalie that felt comfortable with the puck outside his crease ..(has there been anyone since belfour?)  anyway..the season hasn't started...i usually save getting pessimistic for the end of the first month

I liked his game a lot too. But there's no denying our goaltending has gotten stronger because of the trade.

If we end up signing Raymond then the point is entirely moot imo. Frattin is younger but he's no spring chicken.

If Bernier wins 40 games all will be forgotten.

So all Bernier has to do to make you forget a career 15 goal scorer is set a franchise record for wins.

Seems reasonable.

I think Raymond is a better comparable to a player like MacCarthur. There really isn't a player in the organization that replace what Frattin brought. Still a good signing though, and at a better cap hit than Mac.

Raymond is basically in the same boat Mac was when he first got here.  I think you have to have 1-2 players who you bring in either on try-outs or super cheap signings to round out the roster.  Raymond and Ranger would be the two this year. Very likely don't get to keep them at these rates for long but that's ok.

Why are people so high on Frattin? He's proved nothing other than he's young. I don't think he's at all hard to replace.

For all the talk of his wicked shot, I don't recall seeing it that much.  My feeling was that most of his goals on his hot streak last year were Kadri set-up tap-ins.

Frattin's not even that young, only 3 months younger than Kessel.

But he does have a nice shot and plays a style that's not easy to find.

It's no surprise a team out west like LA wanted him, he's going to fit in well with them. Not a big deal though, because he we did get Bernier for him.

Count on him having a big impact with the Kings this year. I can see him putting up some pretty solid numbers. But it's starting to look like we got a pretty good goalie in return, so it's not all bad.

Well he has had the equivalent of a full 82-game season now and has put up 15 goals playing 12:00-13:00 per night and no PP time.  Those aren't bad goal totals for those minutes at all.
