At first glance, this looks like a very good trade for Montreal. Which doesn't make me very happy. I thought injuries were just about to take a toll on them.

The Montreal Canadiens have traded forward Erik Cole to the Dallas Stars in exchange for forward Michael Ryder.
The trade returns Ryder to the organization that drafted him in the 8th round (216th overall) of the 1998 NHL Entry Draft.

Well hopefully it works out better for them than the James Neal trade.

No. I really think Ryder's rebound in production had a lot to do with the system in Dallas and his linemates. He and Cole play a similar game, so I can easily see the same thing happening to Cole in Dallas and Ryder not really fitting in with Habs - kinda like Cole.
Potvin29 said:But why take on an older player with a longer contract for a player who put up similar numbers on your team last season, and was putting up much better numbers than Cole this season? They think he'll be better value for his deal than what they'd want to re-sign Ryder for?
Potvin29 said:Why on earth would Dallas need to sweeten that pot at all? Still seems odd.
Justin said:Montreal now has 12.5 M in cap space for next season ALL their guys signed except Desharnais (and the cheap and insignificant Colby Armstrong, Boullion, Yannic Weber Ryan White). They'll probably also amnesty Kaberle and his 4.25 M at the end of the season. Expect the Habs to be big players on the free agent market this July.
