DetroitRedWings: UPDATE: The Detroit #RedWings have traded G Petr Mrazek to the Philadelphia Flyers for a conditional 4th round pick in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft and a conditional 3rd round pick in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft. pic.twitter.com/nTR27IOfLM

CraigCustance: Red Wings retaining half the salary in the Mrazek trade with Philly.

TSNBobMcKenzie: DET guaranteed no less than a 4th round for Mrazek. If PHI makes playoffs and Mrazek wins 5 games for PHI in reg season, 4th becomes a 3rd. If PHI advances to CF, and Mrazek wins six playoff games, the 3rd becomes a 2nd. If PHI re-signs him next season, DET gets PHI 3rd in 19.

TSNBobMcKenzie: So the minimum DET gets for Mrazek is a fourth-round pick, that could become a third- or a second-round pick, dependent on how Mrazek/Flyers perform. The additional pick, a third-rounder, is conditional only on Mrazek re-signing in PHI.

Flyers had to do this deal.  Elliott & Neuvirth both get hurt approx. 10 days apart.  Neuvirth has proven to be a china doll to the extreme...expect him to get moved or sent down during the offseason, & Mrazek resigned short term if he plays well.  Ultimately, the Flyers are looking for a bridge goalie to get the job done until Carter Hart is ready in 2-3 years.

Wow, Mrazek's stock has dropped... Conditional 3rd and 4th and he's still retained.

It's not a bad deal considering Vegas wouldn't take him for free in the expansion draft.

Why didn't we trade McBackup to them for 2nd? and then Sparky could have come up or Picard

1.  They certainly wouldn't trade a 2nd for McBackup.  We'd be lucky to land a 6th rounder for him.
2.  The Leafs and Marlies need the goaltending depth.  I wouldn't trade any of them at this point.

Because, in addition to what others have said, they were looking for a short-term starting goalie, not a backup.
