NHL fines Kadri for throat-slash gesture

Nick Kypreos says that Kadri will be fined by the NHL for the throat slash, no suspension.

NHL announced it's a $5k fine. That's the same punishment Brandon Prust received for spearing Brad Marchand in the groin.

Wayne Simmons gave Ryan McDonagh a concussion when he sucker-punched him the other night. No supplementary discipline.

Joking aside, it's the right call -- not worthy of suspension.

I dunno. I don't think a game or two would have been out of line. Not worthy of a long suspension, but a short one to make it clear that this sort of thing is not acceptable may have been appropriate.

I buy his contrition afterwards -- although his claim that he was woozy when he did it is a little Widemanesque.

It's funny that punching a player in the face is acceptable (something that could actually cause death) but miming a threat isn't.

A threat that, lets be serious, was never getting carried out. How many times a game does the phrase "You're dead" or "I'll kill you" get said during any NHL game? It's gotta be at least one per.

Enh. I don't feel that contrition after the fact should have an influence on discipline for an action.

Problem is 5K to Kadri is what he makes in the first 5 mintues of a game. Make it 75K like Komarovs speeding ticket, a real slap on the hand.

Didn't Kadri do this exact same thing in junior at some point? If so, it sort of invalidates his 'woozy' argument.

It does in court (to a degree)!

At the World Juniors if I'm not mistaken?

Exactly, these NHL fines are ridiculous when you look at player salaries now.  Maybe a game suspension wasn't warranted, however, maybe having to lose a games worth of pay would be a better slap on the hand than $5,000.
