O'Connor Signs in Ottawa

Two year entry level contract with maximum salary and signing bonuses.

He's been told he will start in the AHL.

Sens have Anderson and Lehner signed for next season and Hammond is UFA.

Do they really let the burglar walk? Will some teams with questions in goal give him a silly contract?

Do the Sens sign him to back up Andy or Lehner and move one of those?

Is it odd that he chose a team with significant talent ahead of him? I thought I read that he was looking for a team that could fast track him, so to speak.

I think it's that starting role in the AHL that convinced him, probably figures Andy doesn't have long left. Plus he'd be in Ontario when he makes the big club, good to be near family.

I guess, though a team like, say the Leafs, doesn't exactly have a plethora of talent ahead of their AHL club in net ( or generally, sad as that is ). Maybe it's just me...

You might be right, but with Bibeau there, I doubt Toronto was willing to make guarentees.

I agree; say the Leafs keep Reimer/Bernier for the time being, and then O'Connor is fighting for time alongside Bibeau/Gibson, might not go so well for him.

Whereas Ottawa saying "we guarantee you will be our starting AHL guy" means that O'Connor at least gets a chance to prove himself at that level and, if he's awesome, will get himself either a promotion or trade to another team that will use him in the NHL.
