Parenteau to MTL

That strikes me as a pretty odd decision by Colorado unless there's a buyout coming.

Maybe, though, I imagine part of it is that it frees up $4M for 15/16 without a buyout.

I suppose but if that's the play I can't help but feel you're better off leaving things as is, hope Parenteau rebounds a little, and try to move him at the deadline.

He had 67 points two years ago and was at a 73 point pace last year. Even with top shelf linemates you have to figure that has some value.

Just reading capgeek and yeah - that's different than it used to be right?

No, I don't think being 35+ ever impacted buyouts. Regardless, it's a moot point:

adater: The Avs will not be buying out Briere. He is an Av for 2014-15

Patrick Roy is a moron, I can't believe he had to include a pick.

I guess that makes Joe Sakic a moron too?

Yup, Greg Sherman too.

:)  Thought so.

NHL fans better start getting used to "cap deals" which have been common in the NBA for a while now.  Just look at the Raptors most recent deal- Atlanta wanted cap space, Raptors obliged by taking Williams off their hands and got a decent prospect to boot.

Both teams/players weren't happy.  Colorado wanted Parenteau's two year deal off the books more than Montreal wanted Briere's one year deal off the books, so a 5th was included.

Useless Trivia:
My daughter is doing Pierre Alexander fiancees make up for his wedding here in Moncton this summer.

My daughter, as a non-hockey fan, told me about the trade this morning so I figured she must be wrong and told her that he played for Colorado still.  Opps!
