Phaneuf to have disciplinary hearing (2 game suspension)

Anyone think Phaneuf will get a couple of games for that hit from behind? The Leafs seem to get the short end of the stick when it comes to suspensions the last couple of years. I thought it was a pretty dangerous hit.

I don't know, it looks like it should have been a two minute penalty for sure, maybe five. But to be honest I have no idea how they differentiate a boarding penalty from a boarding suspension.

Yeah. It should have been a penalty. In fact, I was pretty shocked that it wasn't. A suspension, though? Similar and worse hits have gone without, but, it wouldn't shock me if the league gave Phaneuf a game to "make up" for the fact that the refs missed the call. Anything more than 2 games would really feel like it's out of line with how the league usually runs things, so . . . yeah, 4 games it is.

I think he's playing hurt right now.

He definitely looked a little off tonight. If he does get suspended we will be able to see what this team will look like without him around and I think it won't be pretty.

You've been watching them the last week, right? How much uglier can they get?

They suck now. I think they will enter another level of suckiness if Phaneuf is gone.

Maybe, maybe not.  And I give Phaneuf all credit for playing well so far.

Ashton was suspended for a hit from behind right?  Or am I remembering that wrong?

Also:

@TSNBobMcKenzie

TOR's Dion Phaneuf will have disciplinary hearing with NHL for his hit from behind on BOS's Kevan Miller.

Mmhmm. Seems like the Leafs never get the breaks on the borderline suspendable plays.

A game or two off might not be a bad thing if he's hurting. Also, like I said when it looked like he might miss tonight's game, Phaneuf being out of the line-up isn't automatically a bad thing. Somebody could surprise and step up. It's going to force Randy into giving the points on the top powerplay a different look and if they succeed it might stick.

The fact that it was Fraser who jumped into the warm-ups when Phaneuf left and not Rielly worries me of course. Hopefully that's not a sign of things to come.

It didn't look as though Phaneuf's intention was to hit Miller's head.  Still, a cross-check or a hit from behind is just that if the head is injured or hit.

A suspension would most likely be in the offing.  I'm expecting he'll be given 2-3 games.

Ok so Dion gets a hearing. I also think Dennis Seidenberg check to Jerry D'Amigo head was just as dirty. Shanny is not going to suspend two players from BOS.

I get that it was a bad hit. Dennis Seidenberg hits a guy in head with an elbow, and Liles eat two fists to the face and leaves the game with what I would say is a concusion if I had to guess. I really dont get it...

I don't know about a suspension on that play.  I feel like 4 out of 5 of these hits go without suspension.  It deserves a game or two just because these kinda of hits should be removed from the game but there is absolutely no consistency on this front.

I do think Seidenberg should get a game or two for his head hit.  It's not the first time he's done it.

I think the slo-mo replay of the Phaneuf hit looks much worse than it did in real time.  In real time it appeared that Millar started going Phaneuf's way and he went for the hit before he turned back, but in slo-mo it looks less like that.  I don't even think Phaneuf fully followed through on it.

But I could see him getting a game at least for the optics of it, if not necessarily for the intention.
