Anything is possible in 48 games.  The first 10 games will set the tone.  Where were we after 48 games last season?  At 8th or close to it?  I think the season fell apart around that time.

Well if this was last season, after 48 games, the leafs would have been in the playoffs no?

I just added it up quickly, after 48 games last year, the Leafs were
24-19-5

Well the year before the last lock-out the Leafs made the playoffs, they haven't made it since.  So now this lock-out is over the drought will end.  Definitely playoffs this year.

This is a better team than people are giving it credit for. Reimer plays like he did in 2011 and this is a playoff team. I also have faith in Carlyle's defensive system.

I  2nd that.

I can't remember the last time my optimism equaled productivity.  Usually the amount of if's = amount of points the Leafs miss the playoffs by.  Have to say no.

Strange things can happen in shortened seasons.

Like what?

For the record, I have to assume that the Rangers, Penguins, Flyers, Bruins, Capitals and Hurricanes will get six of the spots. Can the leafs fight for one of the last two with the Sens, Devils, Sabres and Panthers? My head says "no", but my heart says "Ah hellnaw".

They have a chance in this shortened season, in light of the way they've been playing and their w/l record so far.  I'm inclined towards an affirmatively positive answer.  Besides, if Reimer (when he returns from his minor injury) can continue to backstop the team as well as he had been playing prior to his injury, and with all hands on deck, so to speak, the opportunity is definitely there for the Leafs' taking.

Besides, I'm an optimist.  :)
