Please dont put Scrivens on that pedestal

Scrif

Watching tonights game and Scrivens played pretty good, rather he played like a Leafs goalie should. But the game commentators and colour peeps continued to praise Scrivens for his play. Yes, he played well, but the LEAFS played the way they should as a team.

Here's whats going to happen in Leaf land over the next few days. "Get rid of Gustavsson. Scrivens is our next saviour!".

Same thing happened last year when Reimier played well...and where are we? 14th?

Sad.

I don't see why Gustavsson would be brought back but I can't see anyone thinking that Scrivens is anyone's saviour.

Nice to see him play that well though.

Too bad it was the wrong time of year for it.

Scrivens has all the size and tools to be a dominant goalie in the NHL and boy did he give us a glimpse of that tonight.  I seriously think we could be looking at a Vezina and Calder candidate next season.  I'd be more than comfortable running with him and Reimer as our one two punch.  He reminds me of a young Patrick Roy out there, with the puck handling ability of Martin Brodeur and the flashy compete level of Hasek.  I mean sure it was only one game, but this guy is the real deal.

I agree, he's going to be the saviour, he should get 70 starts next year... and we'll win the presidents trophy, no doubt.

I bet he scores a couple of goals, too.

Small sample size and a win where he gave up 3 goals.  Hardly any reason to be all that excited about a guy with a very similar .900 SV% type performance.  A big difference is that Scriven's really hasn't been killed by the Leafs completely no-showing in games like Reimer and Gus have.

He hasn't been coached by Francois Allaire yet. Be patient.

I'm pretty sure he has.

With that said, I think he deserves to at least be in the conversation for the backup role next year. Gus I feel won't be back and if we trade Reimer (I'm not sure that happens) and somehow upgrade our starter's position then sure, there could be room for Scrivens here. If folks are thinking of a Reimer/Scrivens tandem, I really can't see that.

If we traded Phaneuf we now have an option for team captain!

A young Patrick Roy was young. Didn't he win the cup at 19?

You do know that Allaire works with all the goalies in the organization at every level, right? Scrivens has 2 seasons of working with Allaire, plus attending his summer goalie camp before signing with the Leafs.

He's the starting goalie and the 1st line centre we've been looking for, all rolled into one.

The coaching thing was just a joke.

I wouldn't be too quick to pencil Scrivens in as the backup next year. I like him and think he will be a great goalie one day. Keep in mind though that the Buffalo team we played last night had to play Pittsburgh for their lives the night before and travelled in for the game while the Leafs pretty much had the week off. At least I don't remember them showing up for any of the games that they played this week.

In my opinion, Scrivens needs a few more NHL games under his belt before giving him serious consideration as a backup. I think he only has 8 or 9 so far. I could be wrong about that but I'm way too lazy to look it up.

I think he was 16. He got that "special player exemption"....
