Possible Lupul suspension

Dreger says that the Lupul hit will likely result in a hearing. I could see it going either way but hopefully his lack of a history will save him.

In a certain way a hearing may be a positive thing. It is great that Lups is agitated, but he must be just a little bit more careful. The hearing may have that effect. Otherwise I do hope he will escape any further penalization.

He should be suspended. There was no reason for the hit, nevermind a need for him to raise his body up towards Hedman's head.

I agree he should be suspended. Absolutely no need for that type of hit to head.. With our curse against Boston he will probably get two and it will be the two against Boston

If he gets suspended it'll happen today and he'll miss the Buffalo game as one of the games.

Hopefully it's only one game, might be a blessing in disguise as he may not be ready to go back to back after such a long layoff.  I'd rather he sat out and was fresh against Boston.  Buffalo is a beatable team even without Lupul in there.

Here it is again, for reference:

No elbow, he doesn't leave his feet, and it seems careless, not intentional.  His history is clean, and for what it's worth Hedman didn't seem too badly hurt.  (Plus his name is Hedman, you'd think he'd have a pretty hard head.  No?  Too soon?)

Doesn't feel like a suspension to me, but if they gave him a game I wouldn't be shocked.

It was a direct hit to the head(the elbow part doesn't matter) of a vulnerable player. It even appears that Lupul targetted the head. Also, Hedman not being hurt should have little to nothing to do with it. That being said, he may not of appeared hurt last night, but who knows what kind of symptoms he wakes up with this morning.

As much as I'd like to defend the hit, if there's no suspension, the league needs to give it's collective head a shake.

A player being hurt definitely factors into their suspension decision even if they say it doesn't.

Looks to me like it was meant to be a bodycheck, but Headman turned at the worst possable moment, and his head took a big part of the hit. I think we dont see any time off for it.

It does though, it's always been weighed as a factor when suspensions are being handed out.

If it should or shouldn't is a different discussion.

Shanahan mentions it in suspension videos on a regular basis.

There you go, I say he gets 1 game.

That's why I said 'should have nothing to do with it'...I know full well that it factors in.

And yes, Deebo is correct, it's a completely different discussion.

Yeah, more than likely gets a game.  2 max.

I think it could go either way since he doesn't have a history or reputation for this kind of play.

Selfishly, I hope for no suspension though.

Removing the fact that he is one of my favorite Leafs and just watching the play as a neutral observer I would hope that it gets 1 game as it is the dangerous style of hits that the league needs to remove.  The puck carrier was vulnerable and unsuspecting to boot.

Let Lupul play against Boston though.  :)

If it is a 1-game suspension couldn't they strategically launch an appeal, then drop it, so that the 1 game wouldn't be a Boston game?
