Maybe the entire team was traded.  For the Wheeling Nailers.

That's what I'm thinking. After the trip across the continent, the players could a day to recharge - and, not having them at the rink means they don't have to worry about reporters jumping to conclusions every time the coach talks to them one-on-one, or they leave the ice.
