Is Kopacka a real person?

I had to look up him and Hoefenmayer...I'm assuming that Hov (which I just nicknamed him and is a proper awesome nickname for him) has an AHL contract?

It's as if the commentators don't understand that physical contact is still allowed. (talking about "what's a defenseman going to do?")

And he's an ex NHLer. You can't move guys without using your stick apparently.

I listened to NHL radio on Sirius yesterday and Shane O'Brien and Mike Rupp were on there talking about the cross checks in front of the net. They both felt that cross checking should still be allowed in front of the net and used the same defence of "what's a defensive player supposed to do". I don't remember ever being shown to cross check in front of the net. Block and force to the outside, sure...but never cross check. O'Brien went on to say "McDavid and Matthews are so good, now we have to give them free rein in front of the net???"....What!?!? That's the equivalent to being upset that you can't take take Lebron James out at the knees because he's so good at dunking.

That's exactly what I thought. "How am I supposed to move a guy if I can't do something that was always illegal to him?"

Like, I dunno, maybe they should just be better at hockey? Lol

Those guys, and many others like them, probably wouldn't have had NHL careers if cross-checking was properly enforced so I'm not really shocked they don't like the proposed change.

I haven't watched much pre-season, has cross checking actually been getting called more (particularly in front of the net)?

So many of the unofficial rules are designed around allowing inferior skilled players to thrive.  Cross checking in front of the net let?s defenders that can?t get good position of a player.

Hooking let?s slower players keep up with faster players.

Interference as players enter the zone to negative faster/skilled players.

50/50 penalty calls regardless of how the game is appearing on the ice
