4 games in 5 nights tonight for the Leafs in Detroit. No morning skate, veteran lineups for both teams. 48 players still in camp.

I'd expect younger players like Matthews, Marner, Nylander to join older group tonite. Might Gauthier be in the mix too ??

The @MapleLeafs have trimmed their training camp roster to 29 players.

Per Mark Masters:
JVR-Bozak-Marner
Hyman-Matthews-Nylander
Michalek-Holland-Komarov
Martin-Laich-Brown

Marincin-Rielly
Gardiner-Carrick
Hunwick-Zaitsev

Andersen

Looks like Kadri is still out, so Brown draws in with Holland sliding into centre.
Greening might be the old-guy-out come final roster decisions if this is anything to go by.

I get the feeling this is going to be a frustrating season.

Will it? #LiljegrentheLeaf

A couple of bad breaks and good plays by the Red Wings put us down 2-0, but the young Leafs have been bringing the game to the Red Wings since.

Great shifts and extended puck possession by Matthews and Marner on consecutive shifts.

Score could be quite different if Marner didn't whiff on the open net, or if Zaitsev's stick didn't explode on his one timer.

To expand, what I mean is, there's a lot of positives and some very impressive play. But there's little mistakes that are going to cost us so at times we find ourselves 2-0 down without deserving to be, that kind of frustration.

Have to say Marner has impressed me more than I was expecting this year so far.

Exactly - lots of little frustrating things not quite going right  :o

Yeah. This season, my focus is on the process improvements. Are we holding the puck more, or are our young players treating the puck like a live grenade? Is Andersen routinely square and boring, or is every play an adventure and a snow angel? Are our chances caused by having all 5 guys working through each zone in supported formation or from cheating out of the zone? Do we have a lot of icings off missed cross ice stretch passes?

Primarily, my excitement stems from watching Nylander exercise his on-ice vision, Matthews making it look like the puck follows him through a crowd, and Marner waterbugging through a maze of legs to find an open tap in.

Wins will be a rare and tasty gravy for this season. I'm a-ok being in the bottom five in the name of youth development.

I think this TSN Panel is being massively harsh on Andersen asking if he's a concern

Exactly what I was thinking.  No chance for Andersen on both those goals.  No goalie would have gotten those.

I kind of see what Babcock was talking about a few games ago. It's great to have possession, but unless you progress from a perimeter game, it isn't going to help you on the scoresheet. They need to drive to the net more.

If ifs and buts were candies and nuts,... well you know the rest.

What you see as "a couple of bad breaks" I see as a disappointing continuation of this team's habit from last year of giving up an early goal. We did it against Montreal the other night with Andersen in net and he's back in tonight and we did it again.

Deja vu.
