Price gets 6 in Montreal

Will be interesting to see the price tag on this one. Six years seems like a pretty good term though for both sides.

Definitely. Good to see some rationality rather than another monster deal. They already know how the Gomez one is working out.

Well, since this is a Leaf board, I think it's worth noting that while we still have a few RFAs to sign (namely Kulemin and Franson) this signing officialy bumps the Leafs out of the top 10 in spending (for now.) That's going to change but it's refreshing to know we aren't up against it... It's be interesting to see what we do.

Another six years of great slightly above average starting goaltending for Montreal ... ah, how I envy them.

Fixed but yes I agree, I still envy that.

Obviously our opinions of Price's talent differ. I expect he'll be the starting goaltender for Canada at the next Olympics.

That would require a pretty significant increase in his level of play over the next year and a half. As it stands right now, I wouldn't say he's close to be a lock to even being on the team.

I actually would've said Fleury until he tanked out in the playoffs. Price didn't have a spectacular year or anything, but he was easily Montreal's best player and the biggest reason why they won the games they did win.

I'd still put him behind Luongo and Ward in terms of who I expect to be starting for Canada in 2014.

Me too.  As an aside, I think Ward's the most underrated goalie in the league.  At least, you rarely hear chatter about him but he buoys that team up year after year.

I don't mind Ward, but he was far from solid for Canada at the Worlds this year.

Yeah, Price didn't have that great of a season.  He had a .918% even-strength SV%

As a comparison we might be familiar with, Reimer had a .918 SV% at ES (sidenote: Reimer's PK SV% really ruined his overall SV%).

So while Price was still good last season, he wasn't up there at the top in terms of goalies.
