Apparently and take this as you will, but the red wings are starting to tune out Babcock. shannahan and Babcock are apparently very good friends from his playing days, so the rumour is that if Babcock can't turn things around he may be the coach for the leafs next year. I have nothing other them hearsay to back this claim up.

If Babcock does become the Leafs coach next season it will be the worst kept secret in hockey. Kinda like Vanek going to Minnesota.

Babcock said that he doesn't want to negotiate his contract during the season, so if something isn't worked out this summer we're going to hear A LOT of speculation about where he coaches in 15/16. He's also been linked to Crosby and Pittsburgh quite a bit.
