Reimer is hurt! (again)

This is good for the tank. This is looking like a lost season for the Leafs.

This is pretty much the reason why the Leafs need to move on from Reimer.  He's not reliable...whether it is inconsistency in his play or his inability to stay healthy.

What are their other options? It's not as though there are any elite goaltenders available. They are tanking anyways. This is great.

They need to merge Antoine Bibeau with Ray Emery to create a super-goalie... Raytoine Emereau.

Lost season? Hardly. While the details may not be going exactly as planned, this is the type of season the Leafs were expecting and precisely the kind they needed.

I'd go even farther and say this has been the absolute ideal type of season to date. The positive evidence is there of the coaching principles and accountabilit to both the players and the fans, they've been competitive most nights to the point where some players who might have been deemed unmovable last season have rebounded (bozak/phaneuf/lupul? etc), and they're positioned to draft well.

As someone who has wanted a complete rebuild since sundin left, this is almost the perfect scenario.

Tough break but this is definitely one of the reasons why I had a hard time believing the idea that the Leafs could be competitive in the next year or two. The goaltending situation is a huge question mark. They've got nobody with the big club who's really proven they can be a legit #1 over the course of an entire season and no particularly highly rated prospects. I think it's a fairly long-odds bet that the goaltending solution of the future is already in the organization.

That's probably true, but goalies are a strange breed. It's not unusual for unheralded prospects to become high quality goalies.

It's not unheard of, no, but the failure rate of goalies drafted after, say, the third round is still probably pretty high(especially so for North American goalies).

Either way, what I think you'd agree is pretty unusual is for unheralded prospects to become high quality goalies quickly. Usually the sorts of guys you're talking about take until they're 24 or 25 and have a few seasons under their belt before they're legit #1's.

Speaking of drafting goalies, this article was recently re-posted (was originally from 2008): http://nhlnumbers.com/2015/12/26/the-trouble-with-drafting-goalies

Reimer is becoming the Lupul of goalies, when he's not hurt he can play great, but he often gets hurt.

Question: Why is the ice so bad at the AC Centre that Babs has to comment on it?  Heck  we are in Canada and the ice should be firm, so why isn't it?

The ACC is a multi-use facility. The ice gets taken out for basketball games, concerts, etc. If they have to get it ready again within less than 24 hours, it's not always going to freeze well enough. That's just the way it is.

Trade Polak for this Murray dude.

Polak is the last thing the Pens need and Murray was the AHL rookie and goaltender of the year last year. Obviously not going to happen.

The Pens really need someone like Gardiner or even a Gunnarsson type. I agreed with Millen last night: the Pens' major weakness is the transition game from the defense. The forwards are often ready to break out but the defense (other than Letang) just aren't skilled enough to get the puck to them in the right position.

I feel like what you meant to say is that Polak is a terrific defenseman who would be an excellent addition to a team looking to make some playoff noise and can fill any role superbly.

Yeah. There's a level of disorganization there, and the disconnect between the forwards and the D is definitely part of it. They should definitely be in the market for a puckmover more than anything else. Maybe we can convince them Marincin still has some upside? He put up decent numbers in junior and the AHL . . .

Or, you know, that Polak makes a really great first pass, and in return, they should take the conditions off their 1st rounder from this year and include their 2nd rounder next year . . .
