The Anaheim Ducks are a team known for coming-from-behind.  Nothing demonstrated that more aptly than in their previous series against the Winnipeg Jets.  In games in which Winnipeg took the lead, it was never a safe one as the Ducks made short work of it.
The line of Ryan Kesler and Jakob Silfverberg was particularly deadly, complementing Anaheim's line of Perry & Getzlaf.

The Calgary Flames were a team with a penchant for scoring third period comebacks during the regular season, which continued well into the playoffs as the Flames demonstrated against their opponents the Vancouver Canucks in the previous round.
Dubbed "the comeback kids", the Flames young guns -- Gaudreau, Monahan, Ferland, and Hudler -- wrecked havoc on the Canucks game plans.  The Flames penchant for coming from behind was so well done in this series when it was needed.

What of the goaltending?  The Ducks Anderson and the Flames Hiller are comparably even.  Nothing spectacular to date, but both should be able to handle the offensive onslaught these two teams may provide.  Or, will this be a one else-sided affair?

Bear in mind that both teams play the physical game, with Anaheim and Calgary no strangers to it.

The Ducks are seen by many as the dominant team here and there should be no reason for Anaheim not to advance.  Unless Calgary has other plans.

Anaheim 6  Calgary  1  Anaheim leads series 1 game to 0.

Call it the Ryan & Cory show.  These two dominated offensively as the Flames seemed hapless against the physically-punishing Ducks.  Not only did. Cory Perry get two goals and Getzlaf a goal plus three assists, but the Ducks chased the Flames netminder Jonas Hiller from the net, replaced by backup Ramo.  Hiller, by the way is a former Duck 'keeper.

Everything went wrong for Calgary after a little over two minutes into the first period, when Anaheim's goaltender Frederik Anderson robbed Calgary's Josh Joons while on a breakaway.  That, seemed to have changed the momentum in Anaheim's favour, as the offensive floodgates opened on Hiller.

An awful lesson meted out to the Flames by a rusty-less Anaheim Ducks team that had had a week's rest after having won their previous series against the Jets.

Game 2 is Sunday in Anaheim at 10PM.

Johnny Hockey scored a goal with 20 seconds left to tie the game and Calgary wins it in OT.  Calgary can't win in Anaheim so this series is over simply based on numbers but it would be nice to see this one go a few more games.  Also I hate you Brian Burke.

That was quite a hockey game!  And a great atmosphere at the Saddledome!  Those Flames never quit, though they did have the power play advantage in overtime and Karri Ramo was outstanding in stopping whatever scoring chances the Ducks had.

That was playoff hockey.  Very happy for Burke and co.  :)  A fun team to watch. I won't say that they can't take this series just because I won't verbalize (vocally or in print) that they "can't".  I'm not counting anyone out until they are out. However long this run goes, it's making the playoffs a lot of fun.

Anaheim 4  Calgary 2  Anaheim leads series 3 games to 1.

From heros to goats.  That's probably the best way to describe Calgary's Johnny Gaudreau and Joe Colborne's performances on the night.  Gaudreau's speed and stickwork made it possible for Calgary to open the scoring.  Alas, it was also his turnoverl  scooped up by Anaheim's Beleskey who passed it to Cogliano in front of the Calgary goal, that tied the game in the second period.

Then it was Joe Colborne's turn.  The young lad who had been instrumental in Calgary's Game 3 victory, took a double minor penalty in the third which the Ducks converted into a power play goal.

Nice.  Really smart.  It was nearly game over as the Ducks' netminder Frederik Anderson shut the door the rest of the way.
Final Anaheim goal was an empty-netter.

Now the series reverts back to the Honda Center, where the Ducks hope to close out the series.

"It's huge. I think it's a big difference," Ducks forward Andrew Cogliano said. "It's either they have all the momentum in the world coming into our building (or) now we feel pretty comfortable going back home and playing with our fans and hopefully ending the series."

Game 5 is Sunday in Anaheim at 10PM.

Perry scores in OT.  Ducks advanced, Burke goes home.

I wonder if Cherry will criticize Burke for walking to the arena with his tie undone.

We did it, guys!

Cherry says that Calgary is in the exact same position as Colorado was last year, which is perfect on a level that Don could never understand. Then he says that Colorado fell apart this year because they stopped working hard.
