Roy to Dallas

MikeHeika: Stars get Derek Roy from Buffalo in trade for Steve Ott and Adam Pardy. There is your top-six center to take Ribeiro?s place.

They fell out of love with Roy, didn't they? I heard they wanted him gone a few weeks ago, they certainly didn't waste any time finding a taker. Good for Joey I guess, but Buffalo did indeed get a bit better, they got tougher anyway.

Yeah, I think that made the Sabres better.

It takes away some of their offence, but it definitely makes them harder to play against.

I think that was a big part of what they were missing last year.  They became an ordinary defensive team and seemed to be a team that could be beat away from really shutting teams down.  In Ott they got a defensive guy who will pound them.  I think it could be something that puts their slop of a team back into the playoffs.

It's way too early but I think the North East made a number of decent moves to improve their teams.  The Leafs I think made some moves that might help but again I feel like so far it's more of a "let's hope guys develop" to offset improvements by their direct competition.

Not that I think the Leafs have a Derek Roy to give up to acquire Ott but he's exactly the kind of guy the team still lacks.

So in a few short months, did Hodgson go from a #3 centre (in Vancouver) to a #1 in Buffalo?  :o I imagine he's doing a happy dance tonight.

I know Roy struggled last season, but this move leaves a big hole down the middle for the Sabres. Are they really going to go into the season with Hodgson-Ennis-Grigorenko as their top-3 centres?

No, I'm sure Pegula will find a way to throw more money at it.

Maybe they'll want Connolly back ;)

Will not miss his diving 6x a year.

But yeah, we are in "hope they develop quick" mode with respect to the other teams in the Northeast.  :-\
