Rubik's Cube

I vaguely remember back 25+ years ago, I used to have a few Rubik's Cubes.  I read a hints book and I was soon solving the Cube in 20-30 seconds consistently.  The greats at it solve it in less than 10 seconds.

Anyway, when we were at the cottage last weekend, my son picked one up.  He learned how to solve it on his own (after a few hours). I grabbed it from him and would get it 3/4 done, but couldn't remember the final moves.

I think I'll grab one at Walmart today.  I need to be kicking my 16 yr-olds ass at Rubik's Cube.

Anyone else have memories of playing with them?

When I was a kid I read the book "The Simple Solution to the Rubik's Cube" just so I could impress my friends at school.  I never got to the speed of 20-30 seconds, but I was able to solve it.  Mission accomplished!

I lived in thee country with few friends living near me.  I had lots of time to myself ;)

The Leafs are my Rubik's Cube. Still not solved.

But in all seriousness, I did solve one on one family trip to Montreal some 17 years ago. Best feeling in the world to solve it you dont want to move one piece after that.

My mechanical-aptitude on how to take it apart and put it back together was stronger then my threshold for frustration.

I, too, remember Rubik's Cube, and, in Italy, (including elsewhere in Europe), there's still a craze for it.  They even have a Rubik's Cube championship.

A family member of mine was on a recent trip to Italy, and brought back a Rubik's Cube.  It cost approximately $35-45 CDN!  It's manufactured to original specifications, or so the package says.

I've solved it a few times, then got lost again.  It's good to use when one is bored and want to get your hands on something.  Sure beats figuring out the Leafs!  :)
