Scrivens to Habs

Price out longer than thought?

There's been some whispers that there's potential for him to be out for the season. I don't think adding Scrivens is necessarily an indication of that, but the Habs definitely needed to do something about their goaltending while Price is out.

I can't imagine that if this was the impetus for making a move that the first thing they'd do is "well, let's put Kassian on the market and see what kind of goaltending we can get there?"

If Price is out, send Reimer for their first round pick.  Done.

Well it could be a sign they don't like their goaltending depth, which would tie-in with Price's injury.

Call Lou now.

Scrivens doesn't seem like much of an upgrade.  It makes the Prust trade kind of silly now though.  If Therien wants to keep blaming the goalies go right ahead but that noose is going to feel awful tight around his neck pretty soon.

Unfortunately that would probably be the best thing to happen for the Canadiens.

edit: although Price getting injured might just save his job, as the Habs could say he didn't have a starter for a long period of time. That'd be the 2nd season in a row something Price did (or didn't do) probably saved his job.

Montreal depth chart before the trade:

Carey Price
Mike Condon
Dustin Tokarski
Zach Fucale

Question is does Scrivens slot in at #2 or #3? With a 3.47 GAA and .893 save % I'm going with #3.

I'd imagine they'll give him every chance to earn the #2 spot, as they've probably lost most if not all of their confidence in Condon.
