Sens re-sign Hoffman, 4 years and 20.75 million

Hoffman came off of seasons scoring 27 and 29 goals...I don't think this contract makes Kadri's look better on the surface.

That Kadri contract is looking even more like a steal these days.

Over the last three years Hoffman's been one of the better 5v5 scorers per 60 in the league, Kadri not so much. Kadri's certainly got room to grow into a really productive player but that'll be what makes his contract a steal, not what anyone else gets.

I was initially only looking at overall PPG (where they come up about even at 0.60). Hoffman does have significantly better box stats in the past two seasons.

Kadri's superior shot generation will hopefully lead to evening out his production (tank-friendly SH% last year) -- if he had his regular career SH% with the shots he generated, Kadri would be at 27-33G (either counting last season's 6.5% in the average or omitting it).

Sure and shot generation is a good indication of the potential for the sort of growth I'm talking about but until he actually does it it's Enron-style accounting for future profits.

Kadri's got a really crucial role in the next few years. His line has to be effective enough that a team that really wants the points from a game with the Leafs can't just focus in on the kids. That's going to have to involve the puck going in the net a lot more than it has.
