The Toronto Blue Jays (51-57) fresh from having taken two out of three in their most recent road series against the Chicago White Sox, among one of the worst teams in the majors, now will face one of the best -- actually second best -- in the A.L. Central-leading Houston Astros (69-38).

The Astros, second only to the phenomenal Los Angeles Dodgers who just keep on winning, are right up there among the league's premier elite teams.  They've got it all -- pitching, hitting, defence, etc. -- there is a reason for being called one of the best and those are them.  They've been at it all year, and, what they worry?  The second-place team in their division, the Seattle Mariners are 15 GB Houston for first place.

Something the Blue Jays are still dreaming of in what has become the season that got/is getting/or will get away.  With all of everything that has happened to them this year, injuries and all, the Jays are still quietly hoping to salvage their season.  They are currently 8 GBL Boston in the A.L. East and 5.0 GB WC spot.

While it doesn't sound like such a tall order to overcome, the fact that it's so late in the season coupled by the fact that the Jays are finally getting most of their acts together, so to speak, well, anything really can happen, but it hasn't really gotten going in any direction so far in the year.  They are still at the bottom of their division plus the WC spot is no easy feat to attain with all of the teams vying for same ahead of them.

Still, with the Jays scoring some big numbers against the Chisox, the momentum is in their corner.

GO JAYS GO!

Blue Jays  7  Astros 16

Oh what a stinker!  Come to think of it, the Astros were without their top three in the lineup - - Altuve, Stringer, and Correas.

No problem, Houston.  In fact, the Astros have amassed 58 runs scored in five games against the Jays ( dating back to their series versus the Jays in Toronto).  The score here wasn't as bad as the 19-1 shellacking of the Jays in one particular game in the Toronto series.

Jays starter Cesar Valdez lasted until the third onning having allowed six runs.  Not so bad,  considering what happened in the fourth inning when the Astros scored nine runs,  sending fifteen batters to the plate.

The Astros' starter Brad Peacock didn't fare any better than Valdez in allowing seven runs.

The Blue Jays scored a couple of blasts of their own -- Morales two-run homer, Goins' three-run shot, and Martin's solo home run -- but all of the homers in the world weren't going to help them on this night.

Blue Jays  6  Astros 7

A day (Saturday) after the Blue Jays beat the Astros in the 10th inning on some clever baserunning by Rob Refsnyder and timely hitting by Ryan Goins, it was Houston turn to perform the comeback routine.

He Astros won it in the bottom of the ninth off Jays closer Roberto Osuna ( who preserved the victory in Saturday's game). What a game of reversals.  Too bad Osuna experienced trouble in controlling the Houston bats in a four run ninth.

Talk about blowing leads and the like.  As for Jays starter Marcus Stroman, it surely felt frustrating, unlike Marco Estrada in Saturday's win in which Estrada lasted into seven innings, an improvement from his last outing.  Ryan Tepera got the win for that one & Osuna the save.

Stroman allowed three runs (two earned) going a little more than six innings but watched his team's lead all but evaporate.

The Astros take the series two out of three.
