Sheldon Keefe signs two-year extension as Marlies head coach

Fir... I'm glad he's sticking around. And I think him being the Marlies coach as opposed to an assistant on the Leafs is the best thing for the organization.

I can't find it in writing, but he's rumoured to be paid quite handsomely and in a range higher than most NHL assistants would be receiving.

2 years, just the right amount of time to answer the Babcock question. If Babcock is still here in 2 years Keefe will be gone.

Kypreos said in March that the two were nearing a contract that would make him one of the highest paid coaches in AHL history. We'll probably never know what that figure is but yeah I'm sure he's doing alright for himself.

Honestly this is year 5 of Babcock and I believe it's a put up or shut up year.  If the Leafs don't take significant steps forward next season, and that means winning probably 2 playoff rounds, I think Babcock will be gone and Keefe gets the job.  If the Leafs do well enough, Babs stays and they allow Keefe to go and pursue other coaching opportunities that may come about.  It's similar to the Raptors who fired Casey after he won coach of the year.
