Subban to New Jersey Devils

Two players and two picks go the other way.

Steven Santini, Jeremy Davies, a second-round pick in 2019 and a 2020 second-rounder going to Nashville. Pretty good trade for the Devils.

Was it just an off year, or the dropoff year?

Over the last 2 days NJ suddenly got interesting.  For the first time ever.

I don't think Subban is going to get any better and the Leafs don't have the cap room because the Preds needed to shed salary so trading Nylander back is a no go. That would involve a second deal and more problems then it's worth for an aging, maybe in decline D man.

Even if Subban isn't a perennial Norris contender anymore this is still a great deal for New Jersey. Especially if it helps them get Hall to commit long-term.

My thoughts exactly. This is a good trade for NJ. Nashville still has a strong defense after this trade.

If Nashville turns around and spends $9-10mil on Duchene though that's going to be a pretty big mistake I think.

I now you're not a fan, but I think this could potentially open up my Vatanen trade idea. He's basically a right-sided Gardiner replacement (perhaps not quite as good as Gardiner). We'd have to get rid of Zaitsev though (maybe a 1-to-1 swap works.) V has a NTC though.

Doesn't Panarin make more sense? Otherwise you're paying Turris 6 million a year to be a #3 C.

I think that'd definitely make more sense for Nashville, yeah. But I've read them linked to Duchene a lot and haven't seen much Panarin talk there. We'll see.

Yeah I'm not crazy about Vatanen, especially being 1 year away from UFA. Maybe Severson becomes available though.
