Howdy Lads, here are some neat quotes from today's Toronto Sun:
Coach Babcock: "They're good, fast and hard on the puck... we have to keep it in perspective, but I was impressed. Kapanen has breakaway speed, Willy has skill, Hyman is a relentless worker who can still make plays, Soshnikov was good both ways and Carrick had some grease in him... I coached junior a long time - 8 years of junior I coached but I never had a team this young in the American League. Obviously it's exciting. You watch them and it's exciting, but they're also kids. I'm going to come and watch just like you."
Sparks on Nylander: "He's toyed with the American Hockey League and he's 19-years-old. There's not a whole lot of guys like that... He knows exactly what he's doing when he's got the puck on his stick and that's a dangerous thing. His release is great. It's fast, it's hidden and once it's released, it's deadly accurate. You don't know where he's looking, you don't know what he's thinking. It's off his stick and it finds his spot. I don't think we'll have to wait long for that to happen (in the NHL)."
Toronto Sun: "If the young Maple Leafs... glanced across the dressing room, they would have taken not of the next potential generation of leaders on the team. That would be forwards Leo Komarov and Nazem Kadri and defencemen Morgan Rielly and Jake Gardiner, all of whom have been singled out in the past week by coach Babcock or general manager Lou Lamoriello as being in that category... Two players, James van Riemsdyk and Tyler Bozak, can be lumped in there as well."
These guys plus top-4 pick this year (Matthews/Finns/Tkatchuk) plus the draft picks that pan out, plus the next few years' draft picks that pan out... not too shabby.
What do you guys think? Who's sticking? Who's excelling? Who's coming out of nowhere?
