Does anybody really care?  Besides seeing Matthews and Rielly on the young guns team, is there anything that gets you motivated to watch this?

I feel there's been minimal hype around the city and it just seems so forced.

Dont care too much. I am watching the US/TE game right now. Probably cause I have no life, I am an American and nice to see JVR. But far from too invested in gaem

I'm 99% hoping no Leafs don't get injured, .8% hoping Team North America wins and .2% hoping Team Canada wins.

The pre-tournament Canada/USA games last weekend got decent TV ratings. 663,000 on Friday night and 903,000 on Saturday night.

Which obviously matters and so long as the right teams are in the finals this will be a profitable event but at Seat Geek right now you can get tickets for some of the non-Canada/US/TNA games for, like, ten bucks. If we see an upset in the semis and the finals are, like, Sweden vs. Russia the TV numbers will be interesting.

They probably expected those games wouldn't be well attended. That is likely why most of them were scheduled for weekday afternoons.

Yeah, the TV ratings will be heavily effected by which teams advance. I would guess that is the case for any international hockey tournament.

They are attempting to hold viewing parties in Maple Leaf Square for the finals. I could see those being very poorly attended, even if Canada or NA is in the final.

American defenceman+goalie who played today vs. those who didn't:

McDonagh-Niskanen
Suter-Carlson
Johnson-Johnson
Quick

Yandle-Byfuglien
Gardiner-Faulk
Leddy-Shattenkirk
Schneider

Honestly I take group B without much hesitation.

Sure. But to some extent you have to question viability of tournament where half the games are duds like that.

Would have thought that had more to do with the time difference being 9pm in Sweden.

Is it just me or does it look like Rob Blake went to the Gretzky school of facial reactions during interviews? I almost thought he'd start speaking in third person.

That does raise an interesting question. How much of an imprint does this tournament has in Europe, where they take the WC's seriously?

A pretty good case could be made that with Kopitar and Josi the Americans didn't have the best forward or defenseman in the game. America has the better depth of talent maybe but lacking that real high end star power is an issue.

Something that is kind of likely tonight: Weber taking Plekanec into the net and accidentally tangling up with Price.

You remember when you'd be playing road hockey as a kid and someone's older brother would join in and take it easy on everyone? That's what Carey Price always looks like in net for Canada.

I'm no scientist or anything Scott Oake but I'm pretty sure Ryan Kesler isn't on Team Canada.
