Trade Deadline Mega-Thread

Just thought we could have a place to put some minor deals and general commentary about the deadline that isn't Leafs related.

Also, here's a fun drinking game...watch Sportsnet's deadline coverage and drink every time someone says "this is a guy..." or "at the end of the day..." and be dead by noon.

A lot of pretty big names are still out there in the rumour mill right now: Karlsson, McDonagh, Pacioretty, Hoffman. Plus the standard rentals like Kane, Johnson, Vanek, Green, Maroon. This has the makings for a pretty interesting day... which means probably nothing interesting will happen.

Kypreos just mentioned that Ottawa apparently turned down three first round picks for Karlsson. I think that speaks to the fact that they're not really interested in getting nickels for him, no matter how many.

Of course Kypreos also just said that Rick Nash is a better player now than he was when he scored 40 goals.

Did he say if Ryan was in any way involved with that? Because it could just mean they're still trying to make ditching that contract a priority too.

No and that got brought up afterwards. Still, the general perception seemed to be that Ottawa is asking a ton.

So the Sens flipped Cole to Columbus for a 3rd and a "prospect".

So the return on Brassard was pretty good.

Man, that copy/paste was so easy.

Heeeey, John Carlson...

I'd like to see the Leafs facilitate the Caps getting Karlsson by helping them out with Carlson. 1st pairing RD for both teams. Takes Karlsson out of the East for us to turn the Metro playoff bracket into even more of an arms race.

Admittedly I haven't looked at his stats too closely, but I don't think I'd have much interest in John Carlson considering the contract he'll probably demand in the offseason.

Depends on the particulars of shipping Carlson here, but at the right price coming in, I'd just let him walk in the offseason. Obviously I wouldn't force anything for a rental, but the benefit of Karlsson not being in our immediate playoff bracket is not insubstantial.

It's quite an incentive for the Caps to get Karlsson too.

You'll get more offense from Carlson, but McDonagh is a better shot suppressor.

Carlson is a righty though.  If we can get him for San Jose's pick and a prospect, I might consider it - but I imagine it'll take at least a first, if not more.

I'm assuming the idea here is that Nash's two-way game now makes up for the lack of goals. But when Nash scored 42 goals in 14-15 he was also one of New York's regular penalty killing forwards. He's been solid defensively since going way back to even his Columbus days. Hitchcock transformed him as a player. Someone here said that Nash will be one of the most overrated guys of his generation and I strongly disagree with that. He hasn't gotten enough praise for his two-way game his entire career.
