I assume that a trade between two teams involves a written contract. I've never actually seen one, but I also assume that it outlines the details of the trade. In the case of a draft pick, would it include the name of the team that originally held the pick?
I only ask because what would happen if Edmonton proposed a deal to trade the 16th pick to a team. In the contract though, they forgot to write in the 6. If nobody from the Oilers caught the error, would they then have to give the 1st overall pick to the team in the trade? Could they argue that it wasn't their intention to trade that pick and use verbal accounts to get out of the contract? Or would they be dead in the water?
I'm not saying that this would ever happen, but I just wonder what the hypothetical outcome would be.
