Tyler Bozak

Tigger

New member
Didn't see a thread about him, sorry if I missed it.

A while back I mentioned Bozie's numbers compared to last year in another thread, he's obviously had a good few games but right now he's on pace for 21g 36a 57p +10

His play of late has been all you could ever ask of him.

Bozak has really muddled things for Wilson; where do you put all the contributing centres?

Connolly
Bozak
Grabbo
Steckel
Lombardi (when healthy)
Dupuis

It's a nice problem to have, but I hope all this depth doesn't eventually affect morale.

I think Bozak has earned his spot on the top line and you have to put grabovski as the odd man out on the third line until someone starts slipping up given that connolly has had more chemestry with Mac and Kule this year than Grabovski.  That being said maybe you play Grabo on the wing and demote Kulemin to the third line or sit him out a game because he has really been struggling.  Grabovski is more of a scorer than a playmaker anyways.

It is a nice problem but so far they've been putting Dupuis and Lombardi on the wing, I don't think anyone will get too bent as long as they're winning, besides, it's a long season and injuries are likely to happen again at some point.

The one I'm kind of stuck on is what to do when Grabbo returns fully, 3 scoring lines is pretty appealing to me just not sure what the correct makeup would be.

I'm still not over that some wanted him on the first plane out of town for any other center that was offered. Anyway, yeah, he's doing awesome, much like some of us were hoping.

It's so nice that we have the luxury of waiting for our number one center to materialize. Whether that is from within with someone like Colborne or an offer of a huge trade to get a player we otherwise wouldn't be offered. Bozak has given us that time to wait others out. Maybe he just keeps going and we don't even have to replace him on that line.

I don't think he'll keep up this pace, but it's nice to see Bozie succeed, we saw glimpses of this in his first shortened season.

On pace for 60 points right now.
Plus the pace has picked up... in his last 9 games he's got 6g-5a-11p!  If he maintains that the rest of the season he'll be gunning for 80+.  (Not a guarantee.)

Brad Richards signing with NYR is the best thing that ever happened to him.  :D

I can't believe how well Bozak is playing AND the fact he's gotten back to the top line.  I have no problems with him there now given that Connolly seems to be playing well with other players.  It seems like a happy group right now, everyone chipping in.

What's impressed me lately isn't just the points, but how he's getting them. While he's certainly a beneficiary of his linemates' play, he's really doing his part to make sure he's in the right position. Both goals last night were a result of great positioning and being prepared.

I'm not convinced that's the case regarding chemistry. I think it's far too early to conclude that.

And there is no way Kulemin has deserved to sit out a game.

He had a pretty easy tap in recently.

There was a game last season where he went to the slot and an opposing dman gave him a little crosscheck in the back. Bosak's body lauguage said "oh, I'm not supposed to be here because the other side doesn't like it" and retreated. I questioned his character because of that. I would have been pretty embarrassed if it had been me caught on video doing that.

For Bozak particularly, the simple tap in is a good goal because it's another sign of his willingness to go to the dirty areas. Like his team, he's been doing it much more this season as you can see on a number of his points.

Good for him.

I'm still not convinced he's a true #1 center and certainly don't feel he's the Leafs best center but as long as his two wingers keep putting up points, he allows Connolly to help another line and help the PK as Connolly is proving to be very capable of that.

If Bozak can stick and do what he's been doing, it's a big and key contribution to his club because with Grabbo & Connolly centering the other two lines, Bozak almost guarantees they'll have secondary scoring.

It is funny that some expected an undrafted kid, essentially playing his rookie year last year, to put up 50-60 points. Even during last season's struggles, I thought he showed enough flashes of ability then and during his initial stint with the Leafs two years ago to make it seem like he was easily worth another look this year.

Possibly try
Number 1 line (as currently configured)
Number 2a line (Mac, Connolly, Frattin - might get him scoring with Connolly)
Number 2v line (Grabo wing, Colborne, Kuli)
Number 4 line Crabb, Steckel, Brown

Or maybe leave Frattin and Kuli where they are?
