ryanparkerdp: Varlamov is in Denver County jail. Unclear if he has a cell to himself. #Avalanche

ryanparkerdp: Varlamov turned himself in hours ago. Has not been processed for a mug shot to be available yet. #Avalanche

ryanparkerdp: Varlamov arrested on 2nd degree kidnapping and 3rd degree assault of someone he knew. http://t.co/D5D5KNSILh

ryanparkerdp: Varlamov allegedly committed these crimes on Tuesday. Unknown time when alleged crimes occurred #avalanche

ryanparkerdp: Varlamov arrested for 1 class 4 felony count, one misdemeanor for alleged domestic violence that supposedly involved kidnapping #avalanche

I know the personal live of players and such are off limits, but, I figured this was newsworthy enough that it deserved a mention.

Avs goalie Semyon Vallamov has turned himself into Denver police over an issue that allegedly took place on Tuesday. He has been arrested and sits in a cell now after being charged with 2nd degree kidnapping and 3rd degree assault of someone he knew. Earlier the charges were referred to as domestic violence.

Not to be concerned at all on his personal life, but this may have an impact on the team.

Next Avs games is Friday in Dallas. Varlamov is in jail until at least the morning when he can see a judge. You have to wonder if he will be given travel restrictions - even if he can travel domestically it is not crazy to think, he might have to surrender his passport and not travel internationally until they sort this out.

The Avs have been lights out and this guy has been a big part of the success. How this plays out could have an affect on the team.

If he really do this stuff, he's gotta be one of the stupidest athletes and human being in the world.  When everything is going right for you, why go and mess it up like this?  Dumb dumb dumb.

Man that's crazy.

Not only could there be some serious ramifications, but you also have to look at the psychological burden it'll have on him to go through this type of distraction and then go back to playing in net.

Considering the amount of mental focus and concentration it takes to be a goalie, it wouldn't surprise me if this really messes up the rest of his season.

Just keep in mind people.  We don't talk about or speculate the personal lives of players - especially when they're not guilty of anything.  It's fine to talk about how this impacts the team...

Well, at least we get to laugh at that.

Oh come on! What's next? That the Americans landed on the moon??

While I understand your point, it's important to note that in the context of the league this is a massive story, it's not 'mud raking', it's not really people speculating.

This is a national news story now, the severity of the charges and the victim's account mean that this is newsworthy.

If we are going to talk about it, it should not be a hockey discussion, that is a dis-service to the victim and others like her.

Now of course he is innocent till proven guilty, but I think this is a big enough story that at least a civil discourse should be encouraged.

We're not talking about who Bernier and Lupul are banging, we're talking about one of the top stories in North America this morning.

Any chance he plays while the legal stuff unfolds out or is he done?

Depends on what happens with his bail hearing and such. He almost certainly won't play for them tomorrow, but, after that, it's not impossible. As long as he makes all his court dates and they don't feel he's a flight risk, he should be able to play - though, depending on how the judge rules on bail, he may not be able to leave the state (though, my guess is that's an unlikely outcome).

I read that the league has the authority to suspend a player facing criminal charges. So even if he's released and is able to travel, Bettman could step in.
