Jake Voracek: 8-years, $66 million. AAV is $8.25 million. #TSN

Would have been a UFA next summer. Basically everyone expected him to get about $8mil as his scoring rates have been similar to the Perry/Getzlaf/Kessel/Giroux group. Voracek is 6th in league-wide scoring over the past 3 seasons, 4th in assists.

Yeah, ok.

I like Voracek and all, but try playing Voracek with Bozak and Kessel with Giroux and see which winger keeps up their PPG numbers.

Also this should put to bed any talk that Kessel is overpaid.

It won't, but it should.

I guess. But anyone reasonably making that argument would be doing so on the basis of the various NHL market forces that determine salary are inefficient when it comes to pegging a player's true value in terms of wins and losses, not that Kessel was being paid in excess of those market forces.

I don't necessarily agree with that argument but it's got more teeth to it now after the Kessel trade than it did before.

Phil is a better scorer no doubt, but scoring aside....Voracek plays with heart.

He hustles, hits, fights on occasion, plays defense.  He doesn't float and pout the way Phil does.  Phil can score I'll give him that, but he is the definition of a one dimensional hockey player

I would take him on my team over Phil any day of the week

Voracek has 4 fighting majors in his career, Kessel has 3.

You're right.  Phil Kessel is grit, heart and tough play personified...that's why the team enjoyed such success with him

As opposed to the the Flyers?

I can't speak to his on ice abilities but without providing too many details I can say with great confidence that Voracek is a much better drinker than Kessel.
