Wayne Simmonds

berserker

New member
This is turning into exactly what the Leafs needed.
As much as everyone is trying to turn the game into Rec hockey ,
it is still a contact sport.  We need a guy who can be a bit of
a shit disturber and answer the bell.  I love it

Big time anti-fighting in hockey person here, but Wayne Simmonds makes me okay with it for some reason.

Maybe its his fearlessness, his technique (look at those blocks), or his post-fight politeness.

I like Wayne but watching that fight last night only served to remind me how much I don't miss them.

I don't miss two guys who had no business being pro hockey players having mediocre fights because it was their only reason for being around but if you don't miss actual fights between two legit players, well, to each their own.

I like Wayne Simmonds.

I really don't recall if I've seen a hockey player block like that during a fight.

I got the feeling he stopped punching Benn because it wasn't close and was hoping Benn would take the invite to quit but he didn't, hence the blocked punches. Of course then he proceeded to hit him a few more times to get him to quit lol.

Totally agree. Simmonds can play and I like that he didn't ease up on Hughes because the Nucks were still hitting us.

If he were to miss the next 6 weeks, that would be 20 games:

4 against Calgary and Ottawa, 3 against everyone else.

Sucks, but there is so much silver lining.

More LTIR used to bring up 4th line churn while we explore whether or not Boyd/Anderson/Brooks/Barabanov can give middle-six minutes. Simmonds can really work on his skating in the meantime and come back even more terrifying to Vancouver.

Agree. They will have to give these guys a good look now. Time for Vesey to really show what he's got.

While anyone can improve, I think you're being pretty optimistic that a 32 1/2 year old with access to professional skating coaches his whole life will show much improvement over a six week span.

I wonder if the Leafs can go the emergency route with Simmonds? If they can they can technically use Engvall for 9 games and not have his waiver eligibility change so they could technically have 12 more games of him being waiver exempt.
