Line-up Notes

DET
?Mrazek likely start for the Wings. Mrazek has struggled lately after posting Vezina-like numbers in the first half of the season he's gone 9-7-2 with a 2.92 GAA and .898 Sv% since the ASG
?The Wings beat the Wild last night 3-2, but they still sit just barely outside the playoff picture
?Interesting to see Teemu Pulkkinen as a healthy scratch. He has just 12 points in 36 games this season. I'm sure the Wings were expecting more after scoring 61 points in 46 AHL games last season. He was also a name being discussed in a potential Phaneuf trade last season

TOR
?Bernier likely starts for the Leafs. Bernier has a .915 Sv% since the ASG
?Michalek missed practice yesterday as he was apparently banged up in the Buffalo game. If he can't go another Marlie would need to get called up
?Updated Peter Holland's status on the injury board, as he revealed yesterday that he's been out with a concussion. He's started skating with the team and says he's feeling better and better every day

Injuries

?Drew Miller - Knee - Injured Reserve
?Johan Franzen - Concussion - Injured Reserve
Code:

?Stephane Robidas - Old - Out indefinitely
?James van Riemsdyk - Foot - Out for season
?Joffrey Lupul - Lower Body - Out for season
?Matt Hunwick - Groin - Out for season
?Viktor Loov - Upper Body - Day to day
?Peter Holland - Concussion - Day to day
?Nikita Soshnikov - Upper Body - Day to day
?Leo Komarov - Lower Body - Day to day
?Milan Michalek - Undisclosed - Questionable Saturday

And as I post this everyone announces that Sparks will start. They've been alternating lately so that's odd since Sparks started the last game.

Also, Gauthier has been called up on an emergency basis. Michalek's done for the season.

Bernier pitched a 38-save shutout last time Leafs faced Wings. But Babcock opting for Sparks.

Makes the decision to give Sparks back-to-back starts even odder. Unless of course...

Oh Baby! Bob Cole calling tonight's Leafs - Wings game.

He's still very great. People just need to flow with the layer of surrealness he's added to his repertoire these past few years.

Babcock scratching his old team's back?

Wow, Boyes got the jump. Kind of wanted Kapanen to get a look with Kadri, but Babcock looks to be still sheltering him and Lindberg.

Sucks for Kadri though.

I guess a combination of wanting to give Boyes a chance of ending the season with a few highlights for FA, and maybe, uhh, "leveling" production.

Bernier was banged up recently.

I suspect they're just being overly cautious if he's still feeling something.

Also wouldn't surprise me if they want to see how Sparks handles a run of starts.

Hope we lose tonight, we have absolutely nothing to gain from winning this game and a lot to give up potentially.

Agreed. This applies to all 5 remaining games. Bring 'er home boys.

Mystery solved! Lance Hornby had a quote from Babcock in his column yesterday (ignore everything but the first sentence):

A regulation Toronto win against Detroit on Saturday, should the Wings not have won Friday night at home against the Wild, would put them in a huge hole as they try and get back into a wild card spot.

?I?d like them to get into the playoffs,? Babcock said Friday. ?Why? Because I was there a long time (10 years) and I appreciate the people there. That doesn?t have any bearing on (Saturday). We?re playing hockey and trying to improve our group all the time.?
