As I posted on Twitter, I wonder if Marincin just accepts his QO which is 1.3M x 1 yr.

Some names not getting QO's:

Reider is interesting.  His QO would have been 2.45M.  I don't think they declined to tender the QO for any reason other than worrying that he'd sign it.  He's an NHLer, but probably not @ 2.45M.

I was just looking into this. The issue with Marincin taking it is that I think his QO might be a two-way deal. From Capfriendly:

The qualifying offer must be a One-Way offer if the following three requirements are met (A goaltender is considered to have played a game if they are on the bench as a backup for this scenario):

The player played in 180 NHL games in the previous three seasons (Prorating for the shortened 2012-13 season: 156 games if one of the three seasons is 2012-13).
The player played in 60 NHL games in the previous season (36 if the previous season is 2012-13).
The player did not clear waivers in the previous season.

I can't believe there wasn't a gif.

I was just reading that too.  It seems like it would be a two-way, in which case Marincin would probably be reluctant to sign.

You guys have a better understanding of this, so enlighten me here...

Since we don't know the $$ offered on the other end of the 2-way, is it likely premature for us to suggest he wouldn't be interested in it?

Also, wouldn't he be short on options in N.A. hockey?

I'm not really sure if there even is a limit on what the AHL-end of a two-way contract is, but the highest I've seen is usually $100-200k. But really, it's better for both parties for Martincin to sign a one-way contract for say $800k or something.

Marincin still gets a solid pay cheque regardless of if he's in the NHL or AHL. And the Leafs aren't on the hook for the $300kish that would be stuck on their salary cap if they had to send his $1.3mil AAV contract to the Marlies.

The CBA says the following:

" if a Player is eligible to receive a Two-Way Qualifying Offer, the
Paragraph 1 Minor League Salary component shall not be less than
the higher of the Player's prior year's Paragraph 1 Minor League
Salary, if any, or the minimum Minor League salary. "

Can't be less than the minor league salary he had.  Since his last contract was a one-way, I wonder what that means his Paragraph 1 Minor League salary was?  Was it empty, or was it 1.3M since its a one-way?  Otherwise, they'd only have to put the minimum AHL salary of $47,500.

Premature to suggest he wouldn't be interested?  No, I doubt it.  If his AHL salary is $47,500 on this QO, the Leafs demote him, and nobody picks him up on waivers, he's getting waaaay underpaid.  If it's 1.3M, he should be signing it right away!

Options in North America are limited.  Leafs, waivers, Marlies if not claimed.  He could go to Europe though.

Marlies have been flexing their financial might.  Mueller had a 400k "Minor's Salary" this past year.  This year (18-19), he gets $650k, which matches his NHL salary.

If Marincin does indeed get the minimum AHL salary on his QO, then yes, he's much better off trying to work out a deal like you state.  Leafs will have no problem giving him a one-way contract that can be completely buried.  (up to 1.025 million)

I don't know if it's tracked or not, but how does the 17-18 Marlies payroll compare to others' in the league?

I am surprised they gave my Aaltonator (which was broken) an offer, do they really think they can use this used car part in the future?

Who knows? You never know what happens to him in the KHL. Leafs just assured themselves he still belongs to them and cost them nothing.

Although a rack of chicken breasts the other day in Safeway was almost 30 dollars, I would hope that this young crew of players is in it to win it, yes they want their payday, but like Sundin who used to have his Roll Royce shipped to Sweden and back every summer (I know the guy who shipped it), how much frikken money does someone need?  If you have made 10 million bucks by the time your are 23, then the rest is just gravy.  Greed can be good, but at what limit, either you buy into the plan and be part of it or hang onto ego demands.
I know I am one of the older guys that makes comments here, but like some of us we remember when all the players had summer jobs to make ends meet.
Yes get well paid but if "show me the money, means show me the gold mine" then at some junction, we all have to ask ourselves, what are we paying for.
