2024-25 Marlies General Thread

Murray has stood on his head this year down there too. He's put up a .934 - 1.72 in 21 games this year. In looking at his starts, the Leafs/Marlies have spaced out his starts with at least 3 or 4 days + between.

I doubt the Leafs can retain him, but good on him for coming back strong from those surgeries.

Yup, I was rooting hard for Murray. Always love a good come back story. Not sure if this is enough to land him a NHL job next season due to the lack of games played but we'll see.

Surprised that he hasn't been called up to serve as the #3 goalie for playoffs.

He's arguably the Marlies best goalie (maybe best in the AHL) .. for the playoffs. If the Leafs need him, he'll be game ready.

Looks like they want to give the Marlies the best shot at winning. Murray seems to represent that, so good chance he stays down until they’re eliminated.
 
It's of course been overshadowed by the Leafs playoffs run but the Marlies were eliminated in the first round of the AHL playoffs on Saturday. In a best-of-3 series they dropped the first 2 games both 4-3 in OT. Hildeby started game 1 while Murray got game 2.

It was a tough first round match-up for them. Denton Mateychuk had a goal and assist in both games. That came after he spent 45 games in the NHL with Columbus, with his last AHL game coming on December 19th. They also got their starting goalie and probable MVP Jet Greaves back with Columbus missing the playoffs.

A little surprised that Murray didn't end up starting both games as this team was probably only going to have success with a goalie carrying them, but that likely wouldn't have made much of a difference anyway.

Was at the game. Murray let in a weak one that we think went off the D's stick and another that just squeezed through his arm and body. He was outstanding tho. He made so many nice saves. We were constantly saying nice save Matt and you could hear people around us saying the same thing. He gave them a chance, just didn't work out for them. The guy is so calm in the net.

Murray.....21 GP, 1.72 GAA, .934 SV%....both lead the league
Akhtyamov.....23 GP, 2.81 GAA, .901 SV%
Hildeby.....23 GP, 2.53 GAA, .908 SV%

I'm pretty sure he's going to get an NHL job somewhere next season. Happy for the guy.
