John Davidson leaving the Blues organization.

Aaron Portzline @Aportzline Confirmed multiple reports that John Davidson is leaving #StlBlues. He met with #CBJ early this summer. Unclear what his next move will be.

He's a great diplomat.  Managed to finally put a group together who could win but it kind of took him a while. Likely won't be out of work long.  Hope he doesn't waste his opportunity and end up in Columbus. Yeesh.

Little bit of an issue developing between the CHL and the KHL. Yakupov was assigned back to the Sarnia Sting by the Oilers when the lockout hit. Yakupov then played 2 games in the KHL and has now been suspended by the IIHF because he did not have a release from the Sting, who under the terms of the NHL ELC's would be the only place that Yakupov can play.

A Canadian owner for the New Jersey franchise?...

From:
http://www.thehockeynews.com/articles/48581-Krys-Barch-ramblings-and-ownership-fires.html

...the league is basically running the New Jersey Devils. The latter could change, however, if Bettman can convince Bill Gallacher, the owner of the Portland Winterhawks of the Western League, to buy the team.

You might recall Gallacher, the Canadian billionaire who was in line to buy the Dallas Stars recently before they were purchased by Tom Gagliardi. If Bettman can somehow cobble together deals for Jamison to buy the Coyotes and Gallacher to take on the Devils, he will have earned his $8 million salary regardless of what kind of deal he gets for the owners.

Antropov best line: "I learnt this from you". They had nothing to say after that... except watch him bring in fish in one at a time..

Where do the Canadian-based teams stand before the start of the 2013 shortened NHL season?... Short synopsis...

CALGARY FLAMES
Sven Baertschi had a five-game cup of coffee last season in which he scored three goals and brought fans out of their seats in excitement rather than in exit. The 2011 first-rounder is being penciled in on the top two lines, but is it too much to ask to have a Calder Trophy-caliber season?

EDMONTON OILERS
Injuries have limited Ryan Whitney to just 86 games the past two seasons and that has to change for Edmonton?s defense to gain traction. He hasn?t scored in double digits since his second and third seasons in the league with Pittsburgh. Can he prove he?s a No. 1?

MONTREAL CANADIENS
How much does Andrei Markov have in the tank? The answer will go a long way toward determining Montreal?s fate. The 33-year-old played just 20 games over the past two years thanks to a bad knee and hasn?t topped 45 in a season since 2008-09, when he had 64 points in 78 games.

OTTAWA SENATORS
Can Erik Karlsson live up to the honors and the dollars? His Norris-winning season and seven-year, $45.5-million contract extension will drastically raise expectations, but let?s not forget he?s only 22 years old. If he plateaus for a year or two, nobody should be shocked or angered.

TORONTO MAPLE LEAFS

Coach Randy Carlyle has had a few months to settle after replacing Ron Wilson in March, but will his rugged game plan fit with a speed-and-finesse-based Toronto roster? Carlyle was just 6-9-3 after taking the reins and Burke hasn?t remade the team in his likeness. Carlyle must be flexible.

VANCOUVER CANUCKS
Can David Booth and Mason Raymond regain their goal-scoring magic? They?re still young (27), but Booth has had seasons of eight, 23 and 16 goals since his 31-goal, 60-point campaign with Florida in 2008-09. And Raymond?s annual production dropped from 25 to 15 to 10.

He basically wrote out that article on twitter in a series if a zillion tweets on the anniversary of the series back in September. It's refreshing to see it in actual proper form though, and really is a phenomenal read. This one line really resonated with me:

"Game 8. There will be no school in Canada today. History class? Ridiculous. History, instead."

Perfect.

Retired NHLer Scott Niedermayer lents his name and support to opposing the environmentally controverial Northern Gateway Pipeline.

Niedermayer, having grown up in the beautiful and pristine Northern coastal region of B.C., believes that -- the pipeline, originally set to snake through the B.C.- Alberta region/area, near aquifers, rivers and lakes vital to the ecosystem, -- the bitumen should there ever be an explosion or catastrophe associated with the pipeline would be next to impossible to clean up and extremely permanently damaging.

Niedermayer understands the project will be done to primarily create jobs and economic growth (not just for the area but for all of Canada),  but there are times when dollar & cents should not trump something delicate, natural and pristine such as the above-mentioned.

Good read:

Didn't Niedermayer grow up in Cranbrook area so not exactly the Northern Coastal area but he still has the right to support or oppose the pipeline?

Yes, he is from Cranbrook. B.C., and takes a particular interest in environmental matters because of where he's from (surrounding areas).  As the article states, he's lived in cities where there's plenty of pollution and he's familiar with areas opposite that.  As a member of the WWF, lending his name and support to the cause helps address the situation even more obviously.

@Proteautype
Ducks name Scott Niedermayer assistant coach. Expect Leafs to name Tom Kurvers assistant coach any minute now.

I was only referencing that he was from Cranbrook and not anywhere near the Nothern Coastal region of BC where this pipeline is proposed.  It is good to reference that Niedermayer is lending his support to a cause but it is false to say that he represents the area because it is his homeland.  He is from an area that is probably 500 or more miles away.

That joke would have worked much better if Nieds was joining the Devils' coaching staff.
