2012 NHL Free Agency Thread

Wild are going to go all out to get Parise, according to some guy...

http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/free_agency/2012/06/14/zach_parise_might_face_bid_from_minnesota_wild/

Also, best comment ever on that story:

"I am sure the New Jersey Devils will file tampering charges against the Minnesota North Stars, and their general manager Lou Nanne. I am not sure how far they will get though..."

Better to the Wild than the Rangers, Bruins or Flyers.

Caps sign Wolski. 1 year, $600K.

Wow, I think that is the biggest drop off of a salary for a guy his age, like ever.

I completely forgot about that guy.

It's hard to believe he scored 65 points only 2 years ago, at a young age too. His career did a nosedive after that, but it's funny how guys like him and O'Sullivan and Zherdev all just dropped off the face of the earth.

I don't understand this phenomenon either, it's like they just stop trying after they get a bit of cash. I can't say for certain that that is what it is, but I wonder how hard players would work if they had one year deals all the time. I bet the effort would be a notch or two higher.

I assume it's some sort of mental issue or injuries.

It's worth a shot on Wolski. Funny how Mueller was traded for Wojtek and at first both players played well.

Now they're are both pretty much in the same place with Mueller also UFA and will prolly have to sign a similar low-cost 1 year deal.

Mueller, depending on his health, might be a decent risk in that type of situation, on the surface at least.

You could probably say that injuries have a lot to do with Mueller's situation, but not all of these players have had bad injuries, at least not from what I'm remembering. I don't really understand how a guy goes from really good player to really sucky. It must have something to do with drive...

I was thinking about him too, but everything I'd read with regards to his health makes me think whoever signs him will end up disappointed.

According to the article, Doan is seeking $30 mil over 4 years.

So that's a lot.

Maybe those guys met a Yoko Ono or something.  Because as you guys know the wrong girl can change your life forever.

So that's a lot.

$7.5 for a 60 point forward?

That's like $3 million worth of intangibles.
