2012 Toronto Blue Jays Thread

Lawrie's reaction is nothing new to baseball, but the result of his actions does warrant a suspension. Regardless of whether his reaction was justified (and I believe it was), or intent to strike the umpire (which i dont believe there was) the helmet made contact with the umpire and that simply is not allowed under any circumstance. I believe he'll get anywhere between 5 and 10 games.

That said, I hope MLB SERIOUSLY considers discipline against the umpire. Mistakes i can accept, but it hurts the integrity of MLB and every official to directly affect the flow of a game out of spite. To me, this is a pretty clear cut case of an umpire doing just that.

Zero doubt on the 5th pitch .... the first one that should have been ball 4 .. but the 6th one was pretty darned close.  The problem with that 6th pitch was it started waaaaayyyy out of the strike zone and dropped in close at the last second.

But man that 5th pitch.. probably 6 inches outside.

From what I've read, there have been 3 umpires suspended since 2003.

1 was suspended for baiting a reaction out of Milton Bradley, he was suspended for the remainder of the season and playoffs.

The other 2 were for verbal abuse of MLB officials, one was a threat and one was an anti Semitic slur, they both got 10 day suspensions.

Funny how threats and racial slurs are only worth 10 games, but getting Milton Bradley of all people upset gets you the season. I would like to see Miller get at least a game for his unprofessional conduct.

Lawrie gets 4 games. Jays are appealing, which means Lawrie will probably be in the lineup until some time next week. I'm surprised he didn't get more. I imagine the lack of intent, and the questionable motives of the umpire factored in.

Jays laying a beating on the Yanks, 8-1 in the 7th. Four home runs, one by Bautista (9th) and E5 (13th) among the notables. Drabek with 7 strong innings of 3 hit (4 walk) ball.

Bad boy Brett Lawrie 0 for 4 on the night. :)

Considering his ball to strike ratio, I'm not sure I'd call them strong innings, but, they were certainly effective.

His "stuff" has taken a big jump forward this year, but he has a lot of the same problems that he did last year when he was walking 7 guys and lasting 2 1/3 innings.  I honestly wonder if he is actually hitting the plate any more than he did last year.  The big improvement for me is that the pitches that he misses with are much closer to the plate and he's actually pretty hard to hit when he doesn't leave a pitch down the middle of the plate.

Yeah. I wonder if maybe part of the issue with him is that he's trying to be too fine and trying too hard to stay on the outside edges of the strike zone.

There's only so long you can not hit and still take up AB's at first or DH before the team looks elsewhere.

Two and a half years, apparently, but still.

Is this something that would be expected to completely piss Lind off and want to be traded or would he be more or less open to it in order to work on some things?

He has no one to blame for this but himself, so, one would hope he'd be open to working on things, since his trade value right now is effectively zero.

Adam Lind off to Las Vegas, per Shi Davidi. Up comes Yan Gomes.

About time. Lind has been awful while Gomes has put up some very nice numbers in AAA.

So has Snider...

Las Vegas though is notorious for boosting hitters stats. I mean, if Hechevarria's Vegas numbers would translate over in the majors, he'd already be up with the Jays.

With that said, you got to figure that somebody - anybody - can do better than Lind has done.

Snider's actually really struggled since coming back from a recent injury.
Has he? To be honest, I just glanced at his AAA stats without any kind of context. And, for the record, I wasn't advocating Snider be recalled over anyone, or vice versa. I was just saying.

1 for 18 since returning, yeah.
