2012 Toronto Blue Jays Thread

Hanley Ramirez is on the block and the Jays are showing interest.

As they do with 99% of the league.

It's a lot of money for a guy locked into what seems like a serious funk. If the Marlins aren't asking a ton it's worth kicking the tires but absent that I don't know how valuable he is. If the Jays were confident he could be the Ramirez of a few years back...yeah. Otherwise pass.

Well that's AA's MO - buy low, then hope it works out. I'm guessing that AA believes that Hanley is still capable of his 2006-2010 stats. He is only 28.

With that said, it will depend on the price. Oakland and Boston are the other two teams reportedly in on the hunt.

EDIT: I suppose the real question is why would the Jays be interested other than his potential? They have their 3B locked in, and earlier it was reported that the Jays liked Hechevarria to replace Escobar at SS. Really, they could use a long-term 2B option, another starter or, I guess, another outfielder.

They're also reportedly interested in Josh Johnson, which feels like a better fit.

Looks like Ramirez is being dealt to the Dodgers so, well, there goes that.

For very little return too.  A 22 year old pitcher who has some experience and was rated around the 3rd-5th best prospect in their system and McGough who doesn't rank in their top 20 prospects.  They got Randy Choate in the deal too who has been a really good reliever the past few years.

Jeffrey Loria is back on a "sell everything to save money" warpath.  I'm sure he'll reinvest the money he gets from revenue sharing into the team...

That may be because of Hanley's recent performances and price tag though.

On another note, LA is a helluva place to try and get your confidence back.

You think? I've never gotten the impression that there's a ton of pressure on the Dodgers.

Neither have. I mean, be most accounts, they have a loyal and passionate fan base, but, I've never seen it described as overly critical or venomous. Of all the major markets in MLB, LA is probably the easiest place to play in that regard.

Well that and it's consistently one of the toughest ballparks to hit in.

But even his downward trend stats are an improvement on what they have been producing as a team.  A .682 OPS as a team.  Juan Uribe has started 50+ games with an OPS of .543 at 3B.

I don't think its going to take all that much for the fans to warm up to him.

That's fair. Although with real deathtraps like San Fran, San Diego and Pittsburgh that effect isn't as bad as it used to be.

Yeah admittedly I'm still stuck in 2009. Good year.

Wow, Romero has been absolutely awful since he got to 8-1. Five losses in a row and getting yanked after 1 and a third inning after walking six and being down 5-0. Jays could be in real trouble if he doesn't get it together.

Edit: 7-0 now.
Edit2: Wow, 9-0, 8 runs charged to Romero. Brutal. Beck couldn't even get an out before all of Romero's inherited runners had scored.
