Jay Rosehill signed for 2 more years in Philadephia BTW.

So far, it's not being reported as a 2 way deal ..

Good for him if true. Didn't think he'd get that

Me neither although he is becoming a competent fight and even got 3rd star the other night against NYR...

Big contract for a guy with only 100 regular season NHL games to his name. Decent point production and nice shot block totals, but, nothing I'd be locking up for 7 years.

Buys...4 years of UFA time? Gamble though.

3 years, but, yeah. If he doesn't progress from where he is now, he'll be a little overpaid for a few years until the cap rises. The term, though . . . I would have at least waited to see whether or not he can handle a full 82 game NHL season until I locked him up for more than a season or two.

If I were the GM of the Leafs? Absolutely. If I'm the GM of the Predators? Trickier.

I don't know if I agree. I think that's balanced out by the Leafs having an easier ability to manage their financial mistakes than the Preds. Nashville can't afford to have Josi become a Jeff Finger or Ville Leino type situation. The Leafs could.

Predators extend Roman Josi, 7 years, 28M (4M AAV)

What? If this is what 10 goals and 34 points in 100 games gets you, what is Kadri (26G, 37A and 63PTS in 99 games) worth? 7years/56M?

I didn't say it was a different decision necessarily, just that it's a harder one. I think the "ability to manage their financial mistakes" is a little less relevant with the new AHL rules and all but I think you'd agree that balancing those two very real realities of players pricing themselves out of the Nashville market/deciding they don't want to play there with the realities of what it means if they're spending a good chunk of their available salary on a bad player is a tougher decision than the GM of the Leafs would have.

It's not as if the Preds would be paying Josi far less on a short-term deal anyway, so it makes sense from their perspective.

He's already good on the defensive side of things, eats a lot of minutes, and possesses pretty good two-way upside. I think this deal will work out in the Preds favour.

On another note, the 08 draft continues to look even more stacked for D-men.
