Dallas is okay on the blueline if they don't intend to contend this season. They have some promising younger guys and a few vets under contract.

I guess, but if you look at Morrow, Jagr, Whitney, Roy and Fiddler, it kind of says that they want to go for something in Dallas. They might have to upgrade that back end if they truly want to do that.

Shuffling the deck chairs.

DarrenDreger: Waivers: Nsh claimed Rich Clune from LA; NYI claimed Thomas Hickey from LA.

Figured someone would take a chance on Hickey.

All I have to is way to go off the board Lombardi!

I really hope some team wants to make a splash and offer-sheets Subban to a ridiculous contract for 7 years.

I don't. At least, not yet. Montreal will almost certainly match. I'd rather see them have to play for a while without him in the line-up.

Yeah I want them to match, it'll totally screw their cap situation.  They can't afford to pay him huge dollars going into next season.

I'm not so sure. With Gomez bought out and Cole talking about retiring after this season (with the unspoken implication that he wants to return to Carolina), they might actually be okay.

Is it wrong for me to wish the worst on them?  Damn you for making some sense and dashing my hopes.

That's why I hope he doesn't sign anywhere any time soon. Not until after they make some moves to deal with his absence.

It does seem to me as though an offer in the 5.5 million/year range would put at least a bit of a squeeze on.  CapGeek has them at ~58 million for 15 players next year.  Subtract Gomez and add Subban at 5.5 million and you have them at ~57 for 15 players.  If you add a 1.5 million buffer for in-season transactions then you are left with a little less than 6 million to fill out 8 more roster spots for a full 23-player roster.  It's not that easy to get 8 guys for 750K each.  If you look at their top prospects, CapGeek shows 13 prospects on entry-level deals making more than 800K.  A guy like Galenchuk makes 3.2 million (I'm not up on the final decision of how rookie bonuses will be applied to the cap).

They could also buy out Kaberle in addition to Gomez, which leaves them with 9 spots and a little over 1 million/spot.

If Cole leaves, that helps them with salary crunch, but it is not going to make the team better as Cole's 35 goals led the team and 4.5 million for a 35-goal scorer is really one of Montreal's best contracts.  Getting rid of an efficient contract like that isn't really the kind of help that they need to field a *good* team under the cap....

Summary:  Zee, please feel free to be at least a little smug when chatting with Canadiens fans, though I do prefer Busta's plan of allowing Montreal to play a few weeks of hockey without Subban before somebody (Philly? it certainly suits them) unloads the biggest possible payday on him.

Perfect scenario: Habs get off to horrible start, they panic and sign him to a huge contract a few weeks into the season. He comes back and plays horribly which just adds to their woes.  A few fights break out in practice, Therrien glares at players on the bench and shakes his head, Carey Price waives his arms at the bell centre crowd in mock applause and the entire season collapses and they finish 5th worst overall.  Then the Leafs who just miss the playoffs win the draft lottery and get #1 overall pick, thereby bumping the Habs to 6th pick.

Did Hickey clear?  Sens are in need of defensemen, I'd like them to take a flyer on him.

Islanders nabbed him. #sadhickey
LOL. Goes from the good life in LA with the cup champions to a sad-sack franchise with the worst arena in the league. He should call Nabokov or Visnovsky.

Considering he never played a single game for the Kings (and clearly wasn't a big part of their plans going forward) and will likely get regular ice time with the Islanders, I'm not sure he's all that upset about it.

Good for Rosehill!  I hope he gets a spot on Anaheim's roster, he was a fave of mine when he was with Toronto.

RT @NYRangers: The #NYR have acquired F Brandon Mashinter from SJ Sharks in exchange for F Tommy Grant & a conditional 2014 draft pick
