2013 HHOF Inductees

Wow that was long.

Stop, I'll blush.

-The Henderson file is a matter of personal opinion rather than hard facts. Obviously his NHL career doesn't get him in, it's whether you think 1972 merits and induction or not. I am of the personal opinion that he deserves to be in the HHOF, you do not share that opinion. Whatever.

Thing is my opinion is informed by hard facts so, you know, whatever.

-Brooks never would have gotten in without 1980, I'm pretty sure you agreed to that in your long mish-mash, so again, whatever.

And Wayne Gretzky never would have gotten in if he'd been an insurance salesman. At some point the reality of what did happen wins the day.

That's a great article on Mats' development in Quebec.  What blew me away, buried in the article, was the fact that when he scored 114 points in 1992-93 he finished eleventh in the league in scoring.  Eleventh.

Wow.

Different time, and the guys above him were no slouches ... 8 of the top 10 with over 50 goals... Selanne and Mogs with 76 each, oi!

The media consensus seems to be that Niedermayer is a lock to make it, but that Chelios is not. I don't get it, IMO Chelios is about as sure a HOF lock as there is. 3 Norris trophies, a significant contributor on 3 Stanley Cup teams, and most playoff games ever.

It just seems weird to me that Chelios isn't a unanimous lock for the Hall.

Guess I'm in the minority who thinks Roenick should get the nod.

I'd be totally on board with inducting him into the NHL '94 Hall of Fame.

ha ha ha.  Don't forget the obligatory:

"He's on fire!"

There's actually a Sega Genesis '94 Roenick tribute video

I'm all for Lindros and Shanahan getting in...these guys paid the price for their physical play in the NHL by making room for the finesse players around them.

They were point producers as well and leaders on their teams,I'll be disapointed if they don't get in this year.

Hall-of-Famers;
Neely: 395-299-694 (726 GP)
Gillies 319-378-697 (958 GP)

Not a Hall-of-Famer;
Lindros: 372-493-865 (760 GP)

I just don't get it.

Honestly, that's probably a better argument for why Neely and Gillies don't deserve to be in the HHoF than for why Lindros does.

Maybe. But it's worth noting that Lindros also had one of the best WJ tourneys ever too - IIRC.

I think the real comparison for Lindros is Bure who got in last year.

Lindros, in comparison to a ton of guys who had longer careers, was legitimately the best player in the world for a while. To me, that separates him from the guys who could make a claim that, absent their injuries, they would have had HOF numbers.

Yeah, I read today that before the first big head injury, Lindros was 5th ALL TIME in points per game. I think people often forget what a force he was.

Oh, I agree the Lindros probably deserves to be in the HHoF. I just don't think a couple of other poor choices provide any kind of compelling evidence other than the induction committee has a history of making poor decisions.

Still no Pat Burns.  >:(

TORONTO ? Lou Lamoriello gets chills at the mere suggestion that Pat Burns could be inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame some three years after his death.

?He loved the game, was very successful at what he did and really was a misunderstood person at different times,? the New Jersey Devils general manager said of the late NHL head coach. ?I would be just ecstatic if Pat went in.?

?It?s the resume from top to bottom of a Pat Burns that gives him the criteria to be considered, and then it?s up to the committee and the people there to make that decision on what they do as far as how the voting process goes,? Lamoriello said in an interview Monday.

"Pat came here and he had never won a Cup, he came here and won the Cup,? Lamoriello said. ?You never realize how important that was to him, and then after he went through what he did, the relationship that he and I had and the type of person that I got to know, I?d be ecstatic.?

Proud for Geraldine Heaney, one of "pioneers" for Women's hockey, great defenseman and all.  Here's something to watch deking a la Mario Lemieux...
