The documentary "Knuckleball", in part featuring R.A. Dickey, is now available on Netflix.

I was going to check that out yesterday. Was it any good?

Haven't watched it yet, just noticed this morning that it was a recent addition.  I expect I'll watch it soon.

Pitched a solid game, but Lincecum was a little better in a 2-1 Giants win. Jays are now 11.5 out and the last meaningful games they played were at the beginning of April. Looks like another long summer filled with questions.

The defense let the team down again.  Why is it so hard to catch and throw a ball?  Seriously....time and time again it seems like defense is the story and the difference at key points in the game.

If the Jays could only score one run I don't really think you can put this on the defense.

well...San Fran would have only scored 1 run as well if we had a team that could field and throw routine ground balls.

Dickey vs Zito today, should be an interesting game, if the Jays had been decent this year I might have gone upto AT&T park for the game.

Will likely check the highlights after work.

Agreed, they are finding ways to loose! They have made so many crucial mistakes this year it's ridiculous. Every time there seems to be a game changing hit or fielding play it always seems to be against the Jays not for. I keep waiting and waiting for the ship to right but it doesn't. Even if they turn it around it's to late. Will be nice to have Reyes back.

They had 7 innings after that error to score a run and three of their regular 4 infielders are injured/out of position.

Bottom line is they found a way to loose again! They lost, they lost, they lost. Who cares how.

Whether it matters to you is up to you. Still, if we're going to talk about why they lost we might as well get it right.

Well if you want to get technical they lost because of an error that resulted in a single run. The lost by a single run. They lost because of the error and the single run that resulted from the error.

No. They lost because their offence couldn't overcome that single error. When you only allow 2 runs and still lose, that's on the offence (or the opposing pitchers), regardless of how those runs were scored.

Dickey struggled a bit in the final two innings but that was by far his best start as a Jay.

8.1 IP 2 hits 2 walks 5 strikeouts

The Giants couldn't touch him this afternoon

If they hadn't made the error, they wouldn't have needed to overcome it.

Errors happen. That's part of the game. If you give up 2 runs or less, you should win, regardless of whether or not you committed an error. It's really that simple.

I understand that, but in as much as the Jays should have scored more than 1 run, they should also only have given up 1 run. If we are taking about what they should have done, it's really THAT simple.

Even championship calibre teams make errors on routine plays. Like I said, that's part of the game. The difference is, championship calibre teams overcome them. If you have to play mistake free baseball to win, then the problem isn't the defence, it's everything else.
