2013 Toronto Blue Jays Thread

Brett Cecil has gone 38 straight batters without allowing a hit, the longest streak in Blue Jays history.

Insane. He's been lights out. A guaranteed 0. Hard to think this is the same Cecil who struggled with a 5.72 ERA coming out the pen last year. In Spring Training the rhetoric was that he'd only make the team because he was out of options. Now look at him.

Let's hope the same thing happens with Romero.

Speaking of which, another good outing from him yesterday. 7 innings, 5 hits, no runs, 6 K's. 3 BB's, the only real blemish.

Quirky stat -- the Blue Jays are 9-0 against the Rockies at the Dome and the Rockies are 6-0 against the Blue Jays at Coors Field.

Other than the hitting coming around and the starters finally providing decent outings, this team has a much better attitude than they did going into this season.  They've had more of a quiet confidence during this streak vs. the combo of "we are going to sail through this season so let's just goof around, along with some seriously selfish and lazy play at times.

I'm still worried that when Lawrie comes back he's going to disrupt things. Hoping the leadership on the team sets him straight right away.

I don't know why Lawrie is the guy that supposedly will disrupt the team when Bautista can do just as many things that are immature and the team wins 7 straight.

Bautista has had his moments with the umps for sure, and he needs to cut it out, but Lawrie has had multiple run ins including throwing bats and gloves around, stared down his teammates after a botched hit and run play and had a confrontation with the manager over it which Baustista stepped in to help deal with.

Lawrie is a hot head and a distraction at times. He needs to cool it.  And yes they all need to cool it with the umps, which producing certainly helps out.

Sometimes, and I'm saying this is the case here, but sometimes having guys like that on your team can be helpful keeping people accountable beyond the coaches.

Agreed...An in-your-face guy is good to have for sure, if he has the respect of the team and is doing it at the right time.  I think Lawrie thinks he's that guy, but he's not.  Not yet, anyway.  Bautista can and should be that guy.

You could very well be right...by the way, I meant to say "I'm NOT saying this is the case here."

I figured.

This has been a great run but let's not pretend there isn't a huge mountain to climb. The Jays have 90 games left. To get to 90 wins they still have to go 54-36. That's .600 ball. You know how many AL teams are playing .600 ball? Zero. The Cardinals are the only team in baseball playing .600 ball, and they're way up at .637. This team has A LOT of work to do.

If you said before the season the Jays would be .500 on June 21 fans would have been pissed off. Although I'm elated the Jays are on this run, I still think the playoffs are unlikely at this point. We're going to have to play our asses off the rest of the way. I hope they can do it.

Maybe if you want to win the division what you say is true, but to get a wildcard spot I don't think its as difficult as you are making it out to be. This year with the added wildcard spot you can finish 3rd in your division and still make the playoffs and that's especially possible in the AL East or NL Central this season. The Jays are only about 5 games out in the wildcard race and that's not a mountain to climb by any stretch of the imagination. We've seen teams make up 5 games in September and get into the playoffs so for the Jays to be in that spot in June I like their chances.
Don't forget it was only a short while ago we were the 3rd worst team in baseball and now we are middle of the pack with 10 playoff spots up for grabs.

I'm going off of last year's standings. Baltimore grabbed the 2nd wild card spot and they had 93 wins. The Jays are playing great but we need help from other teams to drop back as well.

The games that the Jays have made up on the teams above them in the past 2 weeks is incredible. Not only have they gone 11-0 but teams above them are barely playing .500 and the gap that seemed huge two weeks ago is now within reach.

Pretty incredible run.
