With no more Leafs games to watch this season, I thought I'd update a post I added in another thread already.
There are still plenty of Leaf and NHL related events to watch for. More than enough to keep us fans interested until next season begins...
1) Follow and cheer on the Marlies Calder Cup quest, beginning April 23 (a good chunk of this team will represent our Maple Leafs for years and years to come, and they really look like they could bring home the Calder this year!)
2) Watch the NHL draft lottery on April 30. (If you can stomach it. 20% odds aren't great, but its better than any other team has at getting the 1st overall pick)
3) Watch Morgan Rielly suit up with Connor McDavid and co. to try and defend Canada's gold medal title at the World Hockey Champonships, starting May 6th. We can now also watch some future Leafs play for their respective countries with Zaitsev with team Russia & Matthews with team USA.
4) The Stanley Cup finals begin on June 1st. No Canadian teams to route for this year, but its unlikely any of them would have made it this far anyways.
5) Watch the NHL entry draft on June 24. (No matter how the lottery shakes out, this should be the Leafs highest draft pick since 1989, and hopefully since 1985 when they selected a kid named Wendel at the top of the draft)
6) Free agency on July 1st. Does he or doesn't he become a Toronto Maple Leaf??
7) Does Jimmy Vesey sign with Toronto on Aug 15th?
8 ) World Cup of Hockey, starting Sept 17, should get the hockey juices flowing again before the 2016-17 NHL season begins.
All in all I expect a very, very busy off-season for the Leafs. It has the 'potential' to be the most exciting summer ever for Leaf fans. Fingers crossed.
